Band committment

What are your thoughts about this situation.

I have been playing guitar instead of drums this year and our new drummer uses my kit because he doesn't have his own.
At the last gig he left halfway...

Re: How long does it take you to set up?

Not counting loading/unloading time, about 20 min (not racing) to set up my 5 piece with double kick and 5 cymbals, woodblock and cowbell - excluding mics which I don't always use.
I've gotten...

Rodney Holmes

Maybe he is a "rated" player but I don't hear much about him.
Rodney Holmes is a player that I love listening to or watching because he adds so much to the music and makes it look easy.

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Getting absorbed in what I'm doing and not watching other musicians in the band.

Re: Who is your favorite drummer(s)

Dylan Elise
Because he's insanely good.

Re: What song are you playing on drums?

Good luck - I've tried to play Vicarious by Tool - It was beyond my ability and natural instinct.

Re: What song are you playing on drums?

Crying in the rain by Whitesnake

But I'm also singing it so it gets a bit hard to multi-task at times

Re: Drummers who play too much!

I totally agree, my favourite bands all have amazing drummers. Plus I also play guitar and playing in front of a good drummer gives you a lot more confidence and helps you relax.

Summary:- A great...

Re: Can jogging improve your speed or slow you down?

I'm a runner and I'm also a drummer.
My observation is that when I've trained for a running event I also feel I have more stamina when playing drums.
When you're fit your body can deliver oxygen to...

Re: Yamaha Drum Testimonials Anyone?

I really love Yamaha drums.
I use a Maple custom snare 14" x 6.5"
Here's a photo of me playing on a birch custom kit (I don't own this one) but it sounded lovely.

Re: worst way to be dumped by a band

I had been practicing for weeks prior to a music festival and had all the songs totally sorted.
Then our lead singer rang me and said his son (who is a drummer) was going to be at the festival and...

Re: worst way to be dumped by a band

I replaced a drummer who was unreliable and prone to substance abuse.
He showed up at a rehearsal drunk or stoned or both. I was friendly to him and let him have a play on my kit. He played pretty...

Re: Vaseline in the lugs, bad for lugs.

Another thought:-
Chromed objects subjected to contact from your drum key or your sweaty fingers might breakdown more quickly.
I've noticed that our school kits have more corrosion spots on the top...

The Funkussionist's views

These are my ideas from a scientific point of view.

First :- If your chrome plating is peeling, this is virtually always a manufacturing defect due to insufficient adhesion of the plating to the...

Re: Led Zep Immigrant Song

OK - I don't know.

On the studio recording it sounds like a shuffle to me but in this live version it sounds different.
And I can't really see what Bonham is doing 'cause the cameraman was...

The Funkussionist's Drumming Prejudices?

Yay - my first meaningful post.
Please don't crucify me.

Over the years I have been playing music the only real prejudice I have developed is related to narrow minded know-it-all musicians who...
