Re: Drumming Nightmares

Oh man that sounds terrible! But no I've never had any drumming nightmares. I did have one similar to yours involving my dirt bike (yz250). I dreamed that I was saddling up for a drag race against...

Re: snare basket setup

Basket is at 4, 8, and 12 o clock, and the throwoff sits at 9. That's how I've had it my whole life.

Re: Tips for tuning my new side snare

No it's not hard at all between a 10 and 14 lol, I just need that wet crack, somewhat dry still with a bit of body, not like those thin sounding DnB snares. Almost like a high pitched dubstep...

Tips for tuning my new side snare

I've been really wanting a side snare lately, so yesterday I went to Guitar Center and bought one. I settled on the Pearl m-80 (10x4). While in the store, the display model was hardly even tuned...

Re: youtube clip question

If you're practicing 2 hrs a day and have a drum teacher, it won't take 10-15 years to develop. I'm not real good at estimating the time it'd take a person to acquire certain skills because everyone...

Re: How do you know your level?

This is how I view it. I try not to compare myself to other people, because drumming isn't a competition.

I define the level I'm at compared to what I was able to play in the past, what I'm...

How did you get to where you are today?

Disclaimer: I am in school for mechanical engineering, but my dream career would be to work as a session drummer. So this is all hypothetical, for my own knowledge.

I've been playing drums since...

Re: How much do lyrics matter to you?

Lyrics aren't important to me unless they fall under two categories. A) Completely stupid; so retarded that they actually detract from the song. B) They are so good that they enhance the song...

How do you teach drums?

I have been playing since I was 9 years old, and I'm 21 now. I've never had any lessons ever, and just seemed to catch on pretty quick when it came to drumming; it just came naturally. I still play...

Re: Berklee drum audition (practicing, advice etc.)

I posted these videos in a similar thread and I think it's the best help anyone could get outside of actually personally knowing someone who went through the auditioning process.

Re: Dealing with angry neighbors

Dang dude that blows. It really makes me feel lucky to live in a neighborhood where nobody minds when I play, and I've got my drums in the basement with no soundproofing whatsoever.

It's been...

Re: Does anyone else think of all cymbals as rides

I'm the opposite, I use my rides (I have two on my set) as crashes all the time.

Re: Drumming Careers

My first thought in taking the first step would be going to Berklee but I'm not an expert on the subject or anything. I mean, that's what I'd try to do if I was going to make a career out of it.

Re: Have you ever felt like quitting?

Never.

However, it is beneficial to take time off when you hit a wall, because then when you do start drumming again it feels fresh, and probably tend to come up with new ideas much easier. I...

Re: moon gel

I never like to muffle my snare at all, because to me it just sounds dull when I do that; I don't get all the beautiful tones from it, and there's no crack. For my toms though, I really like the...

Re: Inexperienced drummer with double pedal

When I started I had a single for the first 5 years, then when I got a new kit I got a DW7002 double pedal with it. Spending so long on just a single really helped me get down the solid skills that...
