Re: Preparing for Cruise Ships. Some advice?

I wonder if Moss made extra on his Oceanus gig?

Saw this on Netflix a few days ago.

https://youtu.be/n_xDZjrZ6zs?t=1799 -- Queued to the Moss story.

Re: Getting lazy and playing heel down

I naturally seem to play heel up. When I'm doing my hand-patterns/foot-ostinato practice, I tend to focus on learning both ways, as it sort of cements the coordination for me. So far, it appears to...

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

It struck me as a Pearl advert with a kinda "Worlds Collide" theme. The playing was good, and the performers mostly appeared to enjoy themselves. Strange bedfellows can sometimes lead to far more...

Re: Trouble With Dunnett SS

How does the drum sound without the snare wires? I'd recommend starting with that.

Re: Preparing for Cruise Ships. Some advice?

Welcome to the forum.

There used to be a poster with the handle "cruiseShipDrummer" or something like that. I have not seen him for a while, but you may be able to search for his old posts. ...

Re: Best drums under $1500?

One to add to the list is a used C&C Player date. George Way also makes a similar series that is the F'ing BOMB (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-3lQFvtWmo), but they're at the edge of your budget...

Re: Trouble playing rock stuff

While I like his stuff, I would consider it a descendant of 70's R&B and 80's Pop.

When I think of Billboard-esque rock in 2015, I think...

Re: Best drums under $1500?

Yes. At $1500, the answer is "All of them". Gretsch, Yamaha, Pearl, etc, etc.

Please tell us more about what you need, what styles you intend to play, etc.

Re: Help with bearing edge damage?

You can fill, recut, or simply sand anything that looks like it may perforate a head and use them as-is. You can also close any combination of the above. While the damage is macroscopic, it may...

Re: Outdoor Shows - Head and Humidity

Also worth mentioning, proper hydration begins a day or two before the event. Simply hydrating an hour before the event leaves you under hydrated and possibly bloated. Good call on the electrolytes.

Hydration, a fan, sunscreen, shade, breathable garments.

Re: Foot coordination

I do the same. First 1-3 pages of stick control on the feet. To build coordination, I'll often play some random but common ostinato with my arms (usually from whatever song I'm working on at the...

Re: Ludwig Accent Custom-Mine is different from all others I have seen-Thoughts?

Very nice kit!

Wipe them gently with a dry terrycloth towel to get off the surface crud.
Then with a damp towel to clean and dissolve (use only water)
And again with a dry towel to pick up...

Re: Black beauty snare wires snapped.

Order a L1930 from Interstate or a Puresound 20-strand. Alternatively, cut the broken wire off completely with snips and run 19 strands.

Snare wires typically break due to defect or damage. I do...

Re: Timing test

I'm calling shenanigans on this test. I intentionally played ahead of the beat, and it often registered behind the beat. I played behind the beat and it registered some ahead of the beat. I played...

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

I have a Ludwig Accent poplar kit. What I find is that the BD is fully capable of generating an acceptable tone. The toms are also capable, but their tuning range is much more narrow than that of...

Re: Are my hoops at fault?

I agree with the above. My ludwig snares' tuning range begins at 1-turn past finger tight with 1.5 turns being my typical range. I barely have to think about tuning my Black Beauty, because I can...

Re: New Guru!

Typically, the only choking that occurs with a rosewood drum is at the manufacturers facility. Andy is a brave man to be working on such a toxic material.

Re: help me decide on vintage drums?

Not to split hairs over vernacular,

I would argue that we buy vintage instruments not to sound different, but rather to sound the same (as works recorded in a particular era).

Peace, love,...

Re: Which set or should I wait for a while.

@OP

I'd feel bad if I didn't at least suggest looking at the used kits (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Acoustic-Drum-Sets-Acoustic-Drums---Sets,Used-Gear.gc?extup=700-1000&ipp=25) in the $800...
