Re: Preparing for High School Jazz Band

Congratulations on your decision; jazz band is a blast!

I would definitely get a private teacher. My teacher definitely helped me out with jazz a good amount before my audition. I learned how to...

Re: Awards for Your Drumming

Thanks everyone and congrats others that have received this award.

Indeed, if I'll ever be able to make a living out of playing drums, that would be an award to really be proud of. Congrats on...

Re: Breaking the rules of music

Agreed, I was just going to say Zappa. Absolutely crazy. I don't know how someone comes up with music like that.

Re: Awards for Your Drumming

Thank you! Many people think awards are meaningless, but to me they are a source of confidence and encouragement to keep doing what I love. :)

Awards for Your Drumming

This past year was my first time joining my high school's jazz band. Over my past four years, I have been involved in pretty much everything in my school's music program that could involve...

Re: Matt Halpern

Love Matt and Periphery. He's got a great sense of groove, and his playing is powerful! Not your typical metal drummer by any means, and that's what I like about him. I've talked to him about taking...

Re: Efrain Toro

This was a great video, thanks for sharing! I've personally never heard of him, but he seems like a very educated man.

Re: Double pedals = 1/2 the drummer?

Yes, of course. I don't plan on doing these things with a band or anything. I'm also working out of Gary Chaffee's Time Functioning Patterns. This is all to work on independence and to further my...

Periphery. Or Tool; jamming with Justin Chancellor would be the best thing that could ever happen.

Re: Quick Tip

Danny Carey fans (like me!) do this all the time. :)

I personally love it. It gives everything a much more "tribal" feel.

Re: Double pedals = 1/2 the drummer?

I listen to a lot of Virgil Donati, and I'm currently working on his Double Bass Freedom book, so I guess it has had its effect in me. ;)

In any case, there's nothing wrong with being able to play...

Re: Double pedals = 1/2 the drummer?

Your left foot is busy, but is it creative? Are you hitting it on 1 and 3, 2 and 4, etc? Or are your playing more complex patterns that might serve the music in a more intriguing and musical way? The...

Re: sorry but i have to, BIG DRUM KITS

With my change of style and attitude towards drums, I will be going from a 6-piece kit to a 4-piece kit.

I personally have no problem with people who have big drum kits, as it's just a way to...

When you have a fridge and a microwave behind your drumset so that you don't need to leave it in order to do such annoying tasks such as eating and drinking. :P

Re: Double pedals = 1/2 the drummer?

People don't seem to open their minds to the fact that, with a double pedal, you can now play the bass drum with the left foot. No, you DON'T need to be playing rapidfire 32nd notes to put that slave...

Re: Whats your own favorite drum sound?

Probably the Evans EMAD batter head on my bass drum. The drum is an Export, but this head made it sound better than anything I've heard live. No internal dampening, just that beautiful drumhead. :)

Agreed with this, sort of. I think of where I WILL be after I do the practice. In fact, the thought is so inspiring that I don't get bored at all. Sometimes I lose focus, but I manage to get my head...

As for me, I am a metal...

Re: Super slow practice

There's some really long posts in this thread that I'm sure are very insightful, but I don't quite have the time to read them. So here's my answer:

YES. Yes. Yes.

I do this all the time with a...

Re: someone says you suck at drums, what do u do?

I've never had this happen to me, but I'd definitely go with the "constructive criticism" response Tim Waterson mentioned. I have a few drumming friends and never do we judge each other; we always...
