Re: anybody play a guitar that matches your drums?

Yeah, I like that idea. ;)
My kit is in Marine White Pearl, as is the scratch plate on my Mustang. I'm looking a precision bass with some of that goodness on it, too.

Re: Drummers you like on youtube

Troy Wright is my favourite youtube drummer, thus far.
Stan Bicknel, another Aussie drummer has some stuff up that I like, too.

Re: If I don't play the kick, my timing is good.

Apart from what's already been said. Maybe a new bass drum pedal? I noticed something similar after switching from chain to direct drive pedals. Just a thought.

Re: Sakae Brings Back the "Recording Custom"

Wow, that's pricey!

I'm sure they're great kits but I'm just not drawn to SAKAE... yet.

Re: Do You Like Metal Snares?

Well, variety is the spice of life. Though, I generally gravitate to wooden snares. I'd love to get my hands on a Tama Bell Brass though... Oh, man!

Re: 2014 Pearl Sensitone Snare Drums - Changes and Additions!

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!

They look absolutely brilliant. I really like the new lugs and throw off.

Hey now! Just because we pay more for them doesn't make them inferior!

Ha! How now.

You're fine, mate. They're all of the same type.

Re: How To Record This Kind Of Drum Sound?

That's a question that requires an essay of an answer, and unless one has some experience recording and mixing you won't grasp the answer, let alone pull a drum sound anything like that.

But!...

Re: New drum kit: Gretsch Renown vs DW Design vs Sonor Select Force vs (maybe) Ludwig Centennial

Low end? I'd recommend looking at Saturns and also Pearl Reference. As you said though, you need to play around!

Re: Drums - the stage prop du jour (Grammies content)

Sorry, but you won't find many young musicians that listen to Taylor Swift or Beyonce, I'm repeating something I said earlier but there is SH*TLOADS of great music around, IF you care to look for it.

Re: Drums - the stage prop du jour (Grammies content)

Whilst I do agree that the music awards industry is rubbish. Rock isn't "dead", it's just not in the public eye like it was in years passed. There are so many great bands around, you just have to...

Re: Comparisons on Mars Volta drummers

Jon Theodore's drumming is amazing. He's technical but understated. He doesn't overplay. One of my favourite drummers. Little things like the syncopated BD/HH pattern in the verse of Inertiatic ESP....

Re: Your Everest / Breaking through the barrier

I've not made the summit. Though, lots of little gains here and there.

Three things of late, however...

1) Learning PROPER limb independence by way of tricky drum tracks has been a great...

Re: Can a mediocre drummer start silly/pointless threads on Drummerworld?

Yes.

On a side note, i kind of agree with dazzle. I love reading through "what's your (irrelevant) opinion on ______?" "Am i the only one who thinks _____ is/are overrated?" Threads. It's a bit...

Re: Help me choose a maple kit

I've had no problems with the optimounts. Never noticed any loss of resonance. I'm perplexed as to why they have gotten any bad press.

Edit - Saturn's are always a great choice, too.

Re: What's an accent? Which pieces of the kit?

May I ask what DAW you're using? Cubase, Protools, Ableton, etcetera? Understandable logic, in asking drummers but I think you'll find you might garner more insight (and welcome) on an electronic...

Re: What's an accent? Which pieces of the kit?

Is the music notation below a re-representation of what is layed out in that sequencer pattern? If so, and not knowing the (odd) setting of the book, that would be much easier to explain. I'm into...

Re: Is interior of Ludwig COB unfinished?

From what I've seen and please, luddites (I'm joking), correct me if I am wrong but the QC department at Ludwig is leaving a lot to be desired.

Re: What's an accent? Which pieces of the kit?

An accented note is just that, in the sense that it is louder.
You don't shift drums/surfaces, you simply hit a bit harder :-)

But yes, check the key well. Which should be towards the start of...

Re: What do you think about Casey Cooper (COOP3RDRUMM3R)

I'm not keen on the constant stick trickery. It's a bit of a trend with the younger youtube covers drummers but I find it incredibly irritating.

Re: Do You Play Another Instrument Besides Drums?

Percussion is certainly my most comfortable instrument. I play some rather average guitar and keys. Though, scoring and production is something I'm very keen on and have been doing almost as long as...
