Re: Are E-kits only good for practicing at home?

at least to me, playing e-drums live, it's all about the PA system. Everyone in the band need good monitors, or in-ears, then they'll hear your drums fine. If not, then they probably won't be happy....

Re: Great car for a drummer

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 hatch and my 7 piece kit (single bass drum) and hardware, all in cases, fits perfectly, (although I wouldn't be able to carry anything else), but the passenger seat is...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I've made 2 purchases over Christmas.
1. THe big one, came across a used Yamaha DTX950 e drum kit. Price was too good, so I couldn't say no. lol. So I flipped my old e-drums right after, and am...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I do think she draws a lot of attention for being a very pretty girl drummer, probably more than someone else might who was male, but at least to me, I give her full kudo's for finding a way to make...

Re: Yes, professional grade drum kits are pushed!

When I used to gig all the time, my Pearl exports went from the back of the pickup truck, into the garage, until the next weekend, all winter. -30C to a +21C warm bar, and back. I'd just go to the...

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

every band breaks up / fizzles out / explodes spectacularly - eventually.

I've quit bands, and been fired from bands. "Shut up and Play" is a spectacularly good piece of advice.

I've also...

Re: Playing 15 years, terrible stick control

I can't help with your problem, I'd say I'm in the exact same position as you though. So I'm looking forward to see what responses you get. I also wanted to say, love the user name. I laughed.

Re: Importance of a good drum throne?

the best purchase, bar none, of any musical gear I've ever bought was a good throne. It always seems to be the last investment anyone ever makes, but it makes far more difference than any other piece...

Re: Country drummers!

I agree with some of the other commenters, country is not in a good place right now. Too corporate, to same sounding, and not country. I think the new country boom of the 90's was the high point, I...

Re: Country drummers!

Yeah, I've played country most of my bar-band life, starting in the early 90's when new country hit. Up here north of Toronto, there's still lots of gigs for doing country. I still do the odd pickup...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

modern edrums outsell acoustic kits. And the new simple starter kits are fantastic for letting someone try out the drums to see if they enjoy them. For a beginner all the different kits and sounds...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

I'm totally in agreement with Larryace on tuning for the audience. I tune mine tighter than you'd think too for the toms. I learned this years ago, when I started intentionally tuning my toms higher,...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

I have always found the drum tuning issue to be very odd and confusing. You can talk to 5 different drummers and run into 5 different ways of tuning. I can get a decent sound with trial and error...

Re: Rhythm Magazine/Music Radar review - Guru In-Tense english ash snares.

that's a good review. Congratulations!
I've found often with their reviews, they spend more time on if the drums are in tune out of the shipping box than actual qualities of the drums in question.

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

lol, this topic always goes the same way. The size of kit we individually like is reflected by two things as far as I can tell.

1. Musical style you play. If you are playing metal, you probably...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

and what's up with using two drumsticks. You have to be more creative if you just use one.

Re: Re-training My foot? My pedal? Both?

as another drummer, who used to play a lot, and then took a 5 year retirement, it takes a while to get your body back to being able to play like you used to and it can be very frustrating. I've been...

cool. At first I though he was just using it to hold his set list. lol. I'm a big Collective Soul fan, so I enjoyed that.

Re: The side snare

I've never understood the whole idea either. Aside from "Where the streets have no name" by U2, I've never seen anyone use one.

Re: Stripping - drums & fills.

I think it really hinges on the era of music you are playing in choosing the right amount of "tomage". Right around the early 90's when Nirvana came out, everyone dropped down to minimal 4 piece...

Re: First time buyer advice

Nice kit. I think you did well on the deal. Shell packs are all well and good, but adding hardware and cymbals adds up fast if you start looking for decent stuff. You have something to play with, and...

Re: Bad Auditions

yeah, the only real difference was the bass player wasn't there for the audition, but he was there for the actual practice. I suspect it was him that didn't like me for whatever reason. I still talk...
