I've played only TAMA for years, looking to switch up

I've only ever really owned TAMA kits, never anything else. Had a Yamaha in there for a few years.

Been thinking of switching to a Mapex kit, anyone have one and life it?

Re: Tattoos are cool I guess

EXACTLY.

It's kind of like I said earlier, It's almost more "Punk" and "Different" to NOT have tattoos than it is to have Tattoos.

They're kind of an overdone fad at this point.

*I have to...

Re: Tattoos are cool I guess

As the OP I should state that yeah, it is a "Punk" band that I came from but totally agree that
PUNK is a way of thinking and not really a specific Genre of Music anymore like it was in the old...

But Tattoos don't really say anything except you paid money to get ink needled into your skin. I like them, I...

Tattoos are cool I guess

I recently quit a band on good terms that I was with for 2 years. It was punk music
in the vein of say Ramones and Descendents.

Anyway, I saw their New Ad looking for a drummer to replace me and...

Re: I've joined a band that I can't keep up with

This makes a lot of sense...

I knew the score before I decided to audition but thought maybe I could just 'do my thing'
on their stuff and all would be grand. They are cool with me 'being me' but...

Re: I've joined a band that I can't keep up with

I might try that, smaller sticks is an idea!

They are fine with me working up to it ... but wow, what a reality check for me: I Need To Practice More!

I honestly am not physically capable of...

I've joined a band that I can't keep up with

I just joined a new punk band that's doing a lot of cool things, great gigs, showcases, festivals, etc. I like the music a lot and am jazzed to be a part of it.

I learned the songs fast so i'm...

Thanks All for the insight!

Re: Switching to Traditional Grip after 20 years?

Cheers! I appreciate the input. Yeah it's above the ring below the fintertip, right in the middle where the skin is softest.
Just gets very raw. I'm commited though, Want to make it work.

Thanks...

Switching to Traditional Grip after 20 years?

I've been playing for 20+ years slamming away like a gorilla. I want more finesse
in my playing and have been experimenting with different styles, forcing myself to not
just be known as a basher. I...

Re: Drum Bags/Cases or No Drum Bags/Cases?

I thought that too, Since I mostly play house 3 to 4 set gigs these days where I set up my drums on stage and they stay there the whole night, I'm thinking I'll ditch the bags for travelling (car to...

Re: How Have You Left A Band/Project on Good Terms?

Has that ever kept you from getting hired or turned people off in any way? Around this
city, no one really wants to "hire" someone unless it's a cover band a solo artist.

Re: How do you approach a Low Volume Gig?

CORNELIUS, totally. It's definitely been a challenge adjusting my playing, but i'm
enjoying it. I'm at a point in my mid 30's where I just want to play different things
and not play simply rock...

How do you approach a Low Volume Gig?

I'm a drummer of 20 years, All I've ever really played was loud heavy rock music.
Basically, I've been bashing away for 20 years but have always had very open
tastes in music with jazz, folk,...

What's your Chart 'Cheat Sheet' method?

I got handed about 40 cover songs that i'm fairly familiar with, (I don't necessarily need
to write out note for note charts) and I'm just curious what any of you drummers out there
do to MEMORIZE...
