Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

Dave I see you have yourself down as a pro, I am suprised by your answer.
6/8 is six 8th notes per bar, so it is a count of 2, three 8th notes per count.
1,2,3 - 1,2,3
This is how the song rhythm...

Argument with Guitarist over time signature

I play in a number of bands currently.

One band we are learning new songs, and one song has a rather tricky intro which I can't play well so I am improvising at the moment. The guitarist has...

Re: Tuning toms

10 12 14 but I tune them that way for a reason. I play in three bands all either Death or Black metal. Stage sound is generally loud and I wear ear plugs. So I tune for the smallest of separation and...

Re: Rock or metal drummers who use jazz drums

As MAD said basically. More important is wood type. Better wood give more volume etc. For punk metal it needs to be loud and to cut through so I'd suggest birch.

Re: Tuning toms

Key is important. Read the drum bible. I use 3 semi tones apart. Don't under estimate how important the reso is. I tune my reso a lot higher.

Re: Tama Starclassic Performer B/B

I have a BB and a rockstar custom. The difference in the two is massive. The kick drum is very much louder. The toms are very easy to tune. And again lots louder with loads of mid and bottom end. I...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

It's the top measure that really matters when it comes down to it. Though having said that 6/8 is compound time so you divide the top by 3 to get the number of beats to the bar. So keeping it...

Getting another snare. But which one

I currently own two snare drums. A Sonor 14 x 4 Lite (Birch), which has loads of attack and volume, is dry so great for recording but the tone sits perfectly for cutting through live. I have a Tama...

Re: 3/4.6/8

10/10 for the 3/4 description but 6/8 isn't played over 2 quarter notes if I'm right in you thinking. It's as it says 6 8th notes, and as 6/8 is compound then it's played as two bunches of three....

Re: Problem with my snare

Sounds like one of the screws that tighten the clamps are threaded. Or are coming loose. Use locktite on the screws

Can you post pics of the inside finish and bearing edges. My guess is is home made. As the finish is too good to have no badge.

Re: Can you be a gigging drummer without a drum kit?

Depends how serious you are as a drummer. You could wing it but most house kits are gash and don't have cymbals. But if you want to be a serious drummer with your own sound then get a kit and...

Re: Using metronome 12/8...?

Mike you can't put 5/8 and 7/8 together and get the same feeling as 12/8.
12/8 is a compound time and all compound 6, 9 and 12 are split into trips e.g. 1 and a, 2 and a, 3 and a etc. There is a...

Re: Using metronome 12/8...?

12 8 is compound and compound is a three count and 8ths. So 6 8 or 9 8 or 12 8 are all three count. The difference is where the bar line goes. 6 8 is fast like a jig. 12 8 is slower blues feel but...

12 8 and 6 8 are the same except for the bar line. As said set it to 4 4 are count trips. 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a.

Re: Looking for more kick attack

Attack is about how much air is being moved the less air with the same force the more attack. If you want a toppy clicky type attack sound, then batter very slack then 1/2 turn tighter, reso 2 or...
