Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

My DW kit is 15 years old and still sounds great. Got the original hardware too. They are (or were) extremely well built.

I've never been anti-any brand really.

Re: Who uses Moongel?

Moongel is handy. I used it for close miked situations.

Clean with soap and water, really gets rid of the dirt they pick up (stick sawdust, general fluff).

You can also use your girlfriend's...

Re: Doubles with Cross Stick

Poor Joe, i'm sure he'd find it funny that he apparently moved in smaller circles than most internet posters currently do. I guess playing on the best selling jazz single of all time only gets you so...

Re: Doubles with Cross Stick

I'd rather not, I don't know who that is and it's not actually relevant.

Joe Morello called it cross sticking, that's good enough for me. I don't know why you have your knickers in such a twist...

Re: Doubles with Cross Stick

Well in jazz circles 'cross sticking' often means crossing the arms. I remember Joe Morello referring to it in his infamous book. Well worth studying.

Actually here's an old thread on the subject:...

Re: Doubles with Cross Stick

I think the term rim click is fairly self explanatory. 'Cross stick' on the other hand could mean anything from church to anger management.

Re: Doubles with Cross Stick

I'm guessing you mean rim clicks here, like Stewart Copeland style playing, no?

If so, there is indeed a different approach needed compared to natural doubles on the drum head. It's more from the...

Re: Natural Talent or a Learned Skill??

Some people have a natural predisposition for learning. Or you could say a 'talent' for learning.

How's that for a cop-out on the question?

:)

Re: groove vs chops?

That's a great example but I'd guess him and the bass player are purposely playing off the groove there. It sounds like the bass player is trying for that lazy, rough samples feel. Jojo does some...

Re: John Bonham - The 'Bonhadiddle'

On close listen it seems not. Just a double at the end. Listening to the first part of the pattern the snare sounds like it's unaccompanied.

But I wouldn't put anything past Bonham.
