Re: DW rack-tom mount

Ah yes...L arms forward got them closer. Not quite to my comfy zone, but may be close enough to deal with it.

Re: DW rack-tom mount

My issue could largely be due to the 20" bass giving me less real-estate. I like the bass drum petal pretty close. To achieve my comfortable set up, the toms need to be positioned in the centered on...

Re: DW rack-tom mount

My new gig kit has the mount. My issue is I can't get the toms where I want them. I keep the toms in the middle of the bass drum, once you get it all set up at the furthest position the toms are...

Re: DW Designer Series

Had a chance to try them out. They have slightly thicker shell than the performers. The slightly thicker shells, or the clear ambassador batters seemed to make them loud and more powerful than I am...

Re: Pearl World Series (WLX) - worth?

apologies to inverteddrummer. I misread the initial post and thought you were looking to buy, not sell hence my pointed opinion on the World series drums.

Re: Dw Collectors Series Cherry (FinishPly)

I didn't like the sound of the cherry shells. Not sure why, the tone just wasn't pretty. A bit darker.

Re: DW Performance vs Yamaha Absolute Maple

My opinion, sound wise they both sound great. The DW performers have a lower fundamental, that's the only real difference in sound. The shells are identical in thickness and both are straight shells...

Re: Pearl World Series (WLX) - worth?

I had a world series in coral red back in around 1988. I'd guess around 550.00 without hardware.

Re: DW Collectors - Insight Please?

Performance are collectors shells without the re-rings so that is a small difference (not necessarily better) doesn't legitimize the double price jump. I dig those smaller lugs too. I can't defend...

Thanks bro. Better lighting in these shots where the finish looks more accurate :D

Re: DW Collectors - Insight Please?

Drum sounds are subjective and depend a lot on musical styles too. Pearls 7.5mm shell is very thick and I could never dial those toms in. Mid level frequencies and lots of overtones. I needed thick...

Re: DW Collectors - Insight Please?

I've owned six pearl kits, two Yamaha kits, and three DW kits.My DW maple custom SSC is the best sounding kit (to me) that I've ever heard. The SSC kit sounds better than the standard collectors...

Re: Ultimate Drumset!!

One good thing about getting old, all that dreaming you did as a kid can come to fruition and you can put together your ultimate kit. So for now this kit aggregates all of my drum needs/desires. If I...

Re: DW Custom Drum Orders Matched to Existing Kit

That mahogany finish is a standard clear lacquer over mahogany they do for the maple mahog line. So you may not have to color match, but it's likely. I had to send in this 10" tom to get the perfect...

Re: Timbre notes on my DW's..

The innovation happens, then the marketing department gets a hold of it and brings the hype.

Cross lamination may have been around, but I don't see any other major company offering it as an...

Re: Timbre notes on my DW's..

What they do isn't gimmick driven at first, it's really about great innovation. Changing the shell grain orientation to lower the shell's fundamental is pretty bomb. I like having a warm 10" tom...

Re: DW Collectors Series without re-rings?

Maple toms, I prefer the re rings. DW shells are thin, the rings add a solid attack but keep the singing tone of a thin shell. Yamaha maple cust are straight and with single ply heads sound thin to...

Re: Pearl Professional DLX Series

They are sexy looking drums. I had a DLX kit. They were LOUD and tough to dial in. Tons of crazy projection. If you play big venues unmiked, you are good to go!

Re: Pearl Professional DLX Series

DLX 7500 Series (lacquered finish) were introduced in 1984 and featured 7 ply shells: birch (outside), mahogany (middle), and lamin (inside). Priced affordably, they nevertheless featured high-end...
