Re: How to strengthen Weaker hand
What about doing everyday things like shaving eating and brushing you teeth with the left instead of right This will increase your reflex action from the brain to the hand
The right hand is much...

Re: One Handed Roll??
Jo Jo applies this technique all the time in his playing
Why would a man do all this practicing to develop this if it would be used to impress drum shop clerks?
Why would a young drummer want to...

Re: One Handed Roll??
I'm not angry or putting down Mayer
This is just my feeling about his comments on why he practiced this technique
I hear he makes these comments all the time not just when he was young
I think Jo...

Re: One Handed Roll??
I read a lot of posts of drummers taking what Jo Jo said seriously
A lot of them don't feel all the effort is worth a music clerk's opinion
It takes away the talent of doing fantastic rolls Jo Jo...

Re: One Handed Roll??
I would hope he was joking but as you can see in this thread guys really believe this
Jo Jo should clarify this dumb statement
I heard drummers talking about this statement many times very seriously

Re: One Handed Roll??
Very dumb dumb statement Jo Jo made to say he learned the one handed roll to get music store attention
Mean to tell me he put all that practice in to develop this just for a clerk to be amazed?
I'm...

Re: Seat Height
I always heard leg cramps can happen if your leg is parallel to the floor
The leg be slightly slanted downward to give the foot more freedom to move properly

Re: Is it all in the head?
My teacher always told me if you don't practice correctly speed will never happen
Some drummers practice so tense they get slower as they practice
Don't take it for granted you will get faster...

Re: Moeller vs. Push-pull
push and pull style is based on Johnny Rabb's free hand method
Jo Jo isn't using the rim but I think it's the same thing

Mike Mangini said
WFD is fun
It's a fun way to get better chops
Mike Mangini and Art Verdi feel the same way
Johnny Rabb added the free hand technique

Art Verdi said doing over 1000 beats in one minute is WFD territory
Doing over 1100 is Matt Smith territory

Re: First Exercises to Master
practicing the buzz roll section of the stick control book can develop a better control of the stick for sure
Buddy Rich said a drummer that can't play a proper roll has no technique

Re: 16th notes on hi-hat
Very few drummers play sixteenth notes on the hat using trad grip that I've seen
I think matched is much easier
learning to play these figures with either hand is great for coordination

Re: Fingers Technique?
I agree but the fingers can be isolated to freely move alone
I think matched grip the fingers are free to do this much easier

Re: Wrist control
The stick control book is your answer
Work it relaxed and slowly at first and build from there

Re: Wrists Or Fingers
It is not logical to say I only use wrist or I only use fingers
The wrist and fingers have to work together

Re: Crossover Speed
It's the heavy weights that could cause stifness
2 to 5 pound weights with many reps would be fine
