Re: Feel or Technique, importance?

Just my opinion: If music didn't move me in an emotional way, why would I even listen to it. I may as well look at mathematical formulas.

Music for me, has the capacity to tell an emotional story...

Re: Non-gigging Bands?

We do the same thing. We'll play this awesome jamb and completely forget what we played the next time we play.

I'm seriously condidering buying one of those pocket digital recorders to set up in...

Re: Non-gigging Bands?

I'm in a non gigging band right now. We might play 1-2 gigs a year at friends partys and stuff but for the most part we just get together once or twice a week and play.

We're all in our 40s and...

Re: bombing on stage?

Never stop playing. That's the biggest mistake you can make if you had a little boo-boo. Just keep going. 99% of the audience probably didn't even notice. To stop playing is musical suicide.

Re: Feel or Technique, importance?

I think he's dead on. There are a lot of drummers today that play with feel.

While I admire the technical drummers tricks and techniques and rock solid time, there's something about Bonham or...

Re: Inappropriate drumming

What's sad about the whole thing is that he probably doesn't even know he's doing it. That's why it's so important to record yourself playing. So you can hear what others are hearing. It sounds...

Re: Mangini C&C limb system

Would this be considered an independence exercise?

I need to work some independece exercises into my practice time. Would this fit into that category?

Re: Confidence behind the kit.

As I'm reading Pollyannas reply, I was thinking about being warmed up. I can't play nearly as well when I'm cold. I need about 15 minutes of warmup time before I can pull-off my best stuff.

That...

Re: Mangini C&C limb system

That's what it's supposed to do. You're burning in new neural pathways. After a while of practice, you're brain stops hurting and you're pulling off those exercises with ease.

Re: "implying" swing at up tempos

I didn't realize I was starting an argument. My point was that it has to sound good. How that gets done is largely a matter of interpretation by the musicians and "there's more than one way to skin a...

Re: Moeller dilemma

I have the Chapin video. When I started watching it, I had a hell of a time trying to get it to happen then all of a sudden it just happened. All this talk about upstroke/downstroke just confuses the...

Re: Moeller dilemma

Yes Moeller, as I see it, is absolutely dependent on rebound to bring the stick back to the top position.

You can use your own interpretation of moeller but if you aint lettin the stick do most...

Re: "implying" swing at up tempos

I'd even go as far as to say that you could fake that groove that Tommy Igoe did with just the 1/4 notes on the ride and just swing the snare with ghost notes. A ghost in between the ride pattern...

Re: Getting cold feet about working as drummer...

It depends on what your ideals are. If your looking to get rich...forget it? Musicians are like athletes only a very select few make it to the big time.

I've got a few buddies that went to colege...

Re: The Kit That Bozzio Built

I'd say your in the ballpark. A lot of that stuff is custom made ie: rack, remote pedals etc... Taking into account the customization and the labor involved in doing the custom work that figure could...

Re: need a new snare.choices..

I'll second that. A super snare drum ala black beauty without the exorbitant price. I can't say enough about this drum.

Re: can you have too much knowledge to enjoy music?

Music is an art form. When it's played well there's a feel that goes with it that can't be translated on a piece of sheet music.

All the technical understanding in the world won't give you that...

Re: Which drums and head combo creates the most sustain

So, what I'm reading is that a thick single ply head is the way to go for more sustain/resonance. Makes sense to me.

On A two ply head thye heads would tend to rub together minutely and the space...

Re: Pain in my fingers while on the kit

A few things to consider.
Try not squeezing so hard, let the stick do the work.
A larger stick might help.
Old sticks vibrate more than new sticks.
Go to the music store and try out different...
