Re: Carter Beauford

It's probably because 80% of his drumming career has been with one band. Just not as much exposure as some guys like Porcaro, Weckl, Garibaldi and Gadd. In my opinion, Carter is just as good, if...

Re: PDP Concept Maple vs. DW Design Series

I will admit, I've never laid a stick on a dw kit outside of a drum store but I own a PDP M5 ( similar to the x7) and I think it sounds great.

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Thanks Steve. Ya, the "snare chord" on there is my janky attempt at replacing an even jankier snare chord (yellow string on one side and wire on the other) that was on it when I got it. The white...

Re: The matching snare

A snare is like a lens on a professional camera. It's something you want to be able to switch out depending on the situation. It doesn't have to match the toms and bass.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Very nice. I was on the look out for one of those myself when I stumbled across this on craigslist for VERY cheap.

My new Ludwig 400 Supraphonic. (early 70's)...

Re: The matching snare

When I got my PDP M5 kit it came without the snare. For a while I was searching around for the matching snare to complete the kit. After a while I came to the realization that it's not that...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Ah, that's why it looks different. Cool.

I may try tuning my reso down a bit and see if I still like the sound.

@Kamak, you're probably right. My other snare is a 13" so right now I don't...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

The collar is pretty close to the bearing edge. The last pic shows what I'm talking about best. Your hoop looks different than mine. Is it original with your supra?

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Here's a pic of my reso side. May be hard to tell from these pics but see how the rim is almost flush with the reso head? I wasn't straining to get it this tight. Does it look like I've cranked it...

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

The odds he collects skin suits is way low. It will be fine.

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

I don't have it in front of me now but I believe it does have a diplomat on it.

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

I'll get a pic up tonight. The channel gap is pretty small. I sort of had to thread the strings through. The weird thing is that the reso head feels about as tight as most other resos I've tuned. ...

Re: Why is it you never see threads saying....

I'm with you on that. I've been debating over what my next ride will be for about a year. I just can't seem to feel confident enough in that choice to pull the trigger. I just don't take those...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Thanks Steve. Really looking forward to laying into it. Haven't had much time in the past few days. One question regarding tuning, I like a pretty tight reso head but when I looked at my reso side...

Re: TOM TUNING

Not always that simple but to answer briefly, yes on both accounts. I usually tune my top and bottom head the same. Then, if I think I'm getting too much resonance, I start brining the bottom head...

My new (used) Supraphonic

Some were asking to see photos of my new Supra here on this thread http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118089. As promised here they are.

The craigslist gods were smiling upon me...

Re: First Intermediate Kit

This is a good suggestion. Can I also suggest looking at PDP (used M5, MX, FS (birch), CX). Their concept maples are also very nice but probably too recent to find used. I have an M5 I got used...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Thanks Steve. I've done almost everything you suggested. Coke and foil got all the grime off and made the shell look pretty good. Just need to polish the shell now. Got most of the rust off the...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Thanks. I have been having success with foil and wd40 on the hardware. Haven't polished the shell yet.

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Nice! I'm having a good time taking it apart and cleaning it. Just not sure what to do about the chrome pitting on the shell. I would describe it as "minimal" but still. Am I asking for trouble...
