"Discipline" pattern

Hello,

Can someone help me break down the hand pattern Bill Bruford plays in King Crimson's "Discipline"? I've seen on some YouTube tutorials that it's something like R R L R L R R L R L R R L R...

Re: Mastering the single stroke roll

Get both hands as even as possible in regards to not just speed and power, but technique also. It'll make your single stroke roll flow a lot easier.

Re: Reprogramming foot motion - help

And are you talking about 1-footed 16ths at those tempos, or 2?

Re: Reprogramming foot motion - help

So you reckon even slower than I am currently doing?

And that worked for you?

Re: Reprogramming foot motion - help

I noticed that it only really happens when I'm playing consecutive notes at a medium dynamic, so I started playing 16ths at 110 at a low/medium dynamic heel-up for 20 minutes, see how that goes ...

Reprogramming foot motion - help

Any advice for reprogramming motions? I've somehow largely lost the ability to play slow double bass because I've gotten into the (bad) habit of using too much ankle in my right foot, and as a result...

Re: At what point do you speed up exercises?

Once I can do it comfortably, I do it one more time to make sure it isn't a fluke, and only then do I speed it up.

I don't do any of this "do it 20 more times/put it up by 10bpm a year" crap,...

Re: Weird problem (double bass pattern)

Turns out it was a balance problem after all - leaning to one side/slumping and putting too much weight on the pedals. Take heed when guys like Derek Roddy tell you that posture is very important in...

Re: Using a pillow as a practice pad...do YOU do it?

Occasionally. Usually it's out of boredom, other times it has a purpose. My record so far with single strokes on a pillow is 16ths at 216bpm for 10 minutes

Re: Weird problem (double bass pattern)

I respectfully disagree. 190 is a 'slow tempo' for me with the ankle motion, and so far I'm actually seeing results. Any slower than that (give or take a few BPM), and it just doesn't work for me.

Re: Weird problem (double bass pattern)

No, I meant the term "reverse gallop" sounds stupid, not the rhythmic figure itself. ;)

If I thought the rhythmic figure sounded stupid, I wouldn't be working on it, and I wouldn't have posted...

Re: Weird problem (double bass pattern)

That's what I've been doing now. I wrote myself up an exercise where I play 8th-notes with one foot for 2 bars, then 16th-note "gallops"* (RLR RLR etc.) for 2 bars, and repeating this for 4-5...

Re: Weird problem (double bass pattern)

Technically I can, but it's not strong/powerful enough below 190. The way I have my pedals set up (~3/4 spring tension, beaters ~6.5" from the head) there's simply not enough resistance below that...

Re: Weird problem (double bass pattern)

Yeah, I've worked the first page of 'Stick Control' as a regular exercise into my double bass routine, I'm currently at 140bpm, going up by 4bpm every time I've successfully completed the previous...

I do.

Re: Weird problem (double bass pattern)

That's the obvious answer, but here's the thing - it only happens at the 'ankle motion' speeds (so, for me, that would be 190+).

Weird problem (double bass pattern)

Hello again all,

Recently I've encountered a unique issue regarding playing, I guess you would call them,"gallop" double bass patterns (clusters of 3 16th-notes, usually RLR RLR etc.) By...
