Gretsch Free Floating Snare

Does anyone have any experience tuning one of these?? I have a 14in freefloater and I'm not sure I'm tuning it correctly.

I was taught to play Traditional grip and I have stuck with it. If its good enough for Tony Williams and Todd Sucherman, Both outstanding drummers from different diciplines, its good enough for me....

I have a Gretsch 14x5 Free floater with the brass insert. I am using puresound 20strand wires with Evans heads top and bottom. Genera dry batter and hazy 300 reso. This drum is sick.

I wish there was some way I could do this but I have no way of recording it so that you could hear the true sound. Video cameras just dont do the trick.

The two maple hoops are connected in the middle by a brass insert. The drum sounds incredible.

Go to You Tube and check out the video by Russ Miller on drumset tuning. Its about 35 minutes and is well worth it. Type in drumset tuning.

Thanks!!! I literally took this kit apart and sealed the interiors with Teak oil. That made the drums look like customs and brought out the shell resonance. Everything else is original. Hopefully...

The double tom stand is a DW 9000 series. The others are PDP, but I dont remember the series # They do hold a lot and never move!!!

The plate was only $25 and it is stuck down with very thin tape installed by the trophy shop. If I ever decided to remove it, which i won't, I think it will come up with no damage to the finish since...
