Re: What are your Drumming Prejudices?

+1

I agree. Its especially tough when one of my favorite artists is playing for one of the smaller companies and then all of a sudden they are playing Gretsch or DW or Pearl, etc.

Re: Custom Drums... whats the deal

I think the appeal of a custom kit is that you can get anything you want, like the Taye Originals. Its the fact that the company wants to be able to give you any configuration and finish you want...

Re: Custom Drums... whats the deal

I agree that not all materials need to be on hand before you make your order. These are only my ideas on how this works. But I think that custom drum companies want to shorten their lead time as...

Re: Custom Drums... whats the deal

A lot of the price comes from the fact that the company cannot start building your kit until you order it. This means they have to keep materials in stock and build from their stock. They also have...

Re: Lacking volume - Heel Toe Technique.

I agree with Specgrade: Make sure your setup is the most favorable (the spring tension should not be too tight). Also, just practice. If you are just starting to implement these double strokes...

Re: die cast or triple flanged? help!

Somehow I think Vedox has found his 13" die cast hoop by now. . .

Re: Orange County Drums

I'm not sure if they are going out of business. But if they do end up dying out, does that make their products more desirable/collectable or less desirable?

Re: Painful Snare Drum Question

If you want to keep using that shell you will probably have to make it a very shallow drum (maybe 3-4"). This is because you have various mounting holes drilled that will get in the way. Obviously,...

Re: The Big Kits vs. Small Kits Debate

The DW Kitbuilder is also a pretty good application for modeling setups.

Re: Out of round drum hoop

If you're insecure about bending your hoop, check out this video. Bob Gatzen shows how to fix the roundness of a cast hoop at around 2:40 in this video. Good luck.

Re: 13" Snare Drums?

I use a custom 13" as my main snare most of the time (maple, not brass). Its tuned up tight and dry. It definitely works well in the appropriate setting. I also think that a 13" brass snare would...

Re: Playing using your lower back

I think that your teacher is trying to get you to focus on using your lower back to properly support your upper body. When playing pedals/hi-hat these muscles are important in maintaining your...

Re: Bare Feet, Socks or Shoes?

I usually play in a pair of Puma racing shoes. It helps me play faster, haha.

Re: Question about a kit

This kit appears to be a Yamaha Stage Custom. It is probably birch and I can say that the resonant heads are stock. Beyond that, I am not sure.

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

NOTHING! haha. kidding. I would have to say rudiments. What I mean by that is I am a much better drum set player than snare drum player.

Re: Double Bass Inconsistency

This makes me think of the difference between studying consistently for a test vs. trying to cram all of the information the night before a test. The lesson is that you need to practice consistently...

Re: How do we know where to play the kick?

Thanks, Bo. Listening to Peg, I felt like this was an example of the kick drum augmenting the vocals rather than following the bass guitar.
The kick on 1 coincides with a vocal accent while the...

Re: Finally got my Gretsch add on tom

Are we to take this as an indication of a problem in Gretsch's quality standards or did it appear to be a problem that occurred in shipping?

Re: Drumming pet peeves

I agree with razorx that my cymbals and toms must be "just so." They have to be the perfect height and angle. For this reason, I am not a fan of drum kits that employ a large number of drums and...

How do we know where to play the kick?

I find that when I'm listening to music, I usually agree with the kick pattern of the recorded drummer without really thinking about it. Does anyone else feel this?

I'm not just talking about...

Re: My latest idea for a drumset

I think that this is a cool idea. Let your rack toms sing and your floor toms growl.

However, just because it seems like a good idea, you never know what the finished kit will sound like. On...

Re: What do you think about this finish?

I really like that color with the black nickel hardware. Also, I actually like the dark bubinga hoops next to the purple. Though I wouldn't go with the purple because its too feminine for me.

Re: I have an amazing idea for working on your left hand, while you're browsing the web!

I had never thought of doing this before. I am going to try it and I have a perfect place to put a pad to my left while I'm on my computer.

Now if I could just figure out how to type at the same...
