Re: Joe Travers

If you do not own it, the 2008 release ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA DVD set is truly amazing.

Seeing that first tour live in 2006 blew me away. Probably the most amazing display of technical musical...

Re: StarClassic 100% birch

As soon as Tama came out with the Performer (all birch) kits, I fell in love. I played them side by side at a local store and liked the birch much better than the maple. I never understood how the...

Re: Will Calhoun

I have the Luna and the Ambient rides, plus the Mad Hats and the Alien Disc. They're all great cymbals.

The Luna is what I call my "Musical Anvil". It's thick, heavy and musical. Great for its...

Re: Attractive female drummers

I'd be much more impressed by girl drummers like Emannuelle Caplette if they'd post LIVE videos in a band setting.

She has one live video, a snare drum solo, out of all of the videos she posts on...

Re: New to recording - couple of questions

Look up "Jammit" for drumless tracks. $2-$5 each. The PC version gave me fits and I still need to sort it out though. But you can use each song on up three devices and it works on iPads / iPods /...

Re: Adjusting Snare Drums with TWO snare wire tensioners?

Yeah, except I just recently acquired it so I'm trying to figure out my favorite tuning for it. Thanks for the input.

Adjusting Snare Drums with TWO snare wire tensioners?

I have a Tama SC Copper snare that has tensioners on both sides of the snares. Would anyone have just general advice on the best way to adjust them? I tend to get "paralysis by too many options" at...

Re: DW- Cherry drums video

Just finding this thread... Dang those are purty drums.

I don't get the skepticism. I love the idea that instrument makers like PRS and DW go so deep into every factor they can think of that...

Re: Looking for reviews on Tama Starclassic G Copper Snare

Jamesddrummer, or anyone else that has one of these:

Looking at mine a little closer tonight, it looks as though the inner part of the shell is coated / painted black. What I can find on this...

Re: Is being over-educated about gear good, or bad?

I don't think you can be "over-educated" on gear. You simply have to temper what you THINK your ears want with what the gear actually gives you.

There have been times where specs on gear gave me...

Re: Jeff's new Gurus!!

........Wow. Let me mop up this drool....

What a gorgeous set. The shell construction is interesting, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. And even the bass drum hoops are beautiful...

Re: Am I a terrible drummer?

You like being in band and want to stay, right?

So go to your director and ask for specific things to fix in regards to your playing. Listen and apply what he says best you can. If he's...

Re: Just can't sell my snares.

Yeah, I keep thinking I should sell a few to get over a financial hump. But I tend to buy rather obscure / weird or particular vintage snares. And they'll be a real pain to replace down the road.

Anon La Ply: what makes you think HE dictates what the production of his drum sounds would be?

Re: Garage sale find: Thoughts, opinions, and help wanted

"Here is the snare reassembled and looking nice and shiny. Aluminum foil and water do wonders for chrome."

OK, would you explain that, please?

Re: Drumset with small sizes

JD Blair made an 18" BD sound monstrously huge on tour with Victor Wooten some years back. It sounded crazy good. So I guess just get some mics and learn to use them.

Re: Dennis Chambers

I've seen him in clinic and with Niacin, both times up pretty close. I find it hard to believe that he uses the grip that he does and still pulls off such subtlety and finesse but still with that...

Re: Damage on a Tama Superstar single-headed tom from evilBay.

I already have a two-headed 8" tom in that colour, so no putting another head on it. I DID think about trying to do that with the 6" single-headed tom I have if I could find another one.

But as...
