Re: Poor practise facilities:-(

The studio I used was Greenbank studio in Luton. It was a shame really because I think it could be a really good place.
I am based in Switzerland now where it is really hard to find practise space....

Poor practise facilities:-(

Visiting England for a few days so I tracked down a studio which would let me do some practise. After booking and paying for two hours, I was shown to a room with dirty carpets and broken furniture,...

Re: outdoor gigs

Lots of good tips for keeping hands warm but for general joints stiffness, a supplement called Glucosamine is excellent. It is available in most health food shops.

Live sounds at small gigs.

Whenever my band play a small gig which only requires my Bass drum to be mic`d, I end up falling out with the others. The reason for this is they always want to dampen my kit right down. I play a...

Re: What's your musical situation?

I am currently in a band called The spoilers. We take our name from an aircraft flight control part as we all work in aviation. We live in Switzerland but come from Scotland, Ireland, Sweden (x2) and...

Re: Does replacing stock heads make difference?

In my opinion, there is not much point in spending money upgrading your kit if you leave cheap, well battered heads on it. It is definitely worth spending a few dollars more to get good quality heads...

Re: Double Bass Pedal Problems

I have Tama Iron Cobra pedals and the only thing I really like about them is that they don`t slide!!! I "upgraded" to these pedals after learning to use doubles on a cheap Pearl P100 set. What a...

Re: Lost my drumming Mojo.

Hey Raging Moon,
It`s probably not as bad as it seems! Take some time for yourself and try to remember why you fell in love with drumming. Ease off with the technical practice sessions and...

Re: Strange places to play drums!

I once played in an ASDA supermarket in Dundee. It was surreal watching people push their trolleys along the aisles dancing and singing along to our band as the picked their fruit and veg !!!

Re: First gig ever on Sat - preparation tips

My tip is; don`t get nervous, get excited. Performing live is the biggest thrill you can ever experience. Think about it in the lead up to the gig and imagine how much fun it is going to be.

Re: Right hand seized-up during a show

Hey Boomstick,
On the bright side, at least it was the last song and not the first!!!
I had the same thing happen once in the middle of a solo (I don`t do many). The most worrying thing is that the...

Re: Your 1st drumset?what and when?

I used my first months salary to buy an old blue sparkle Pearl kit (no idea what model).
The bass drum pedal had a leather strap which did not spring back. It took me a while to work out why I...

Re: My first and last (hopefully) wedding gig.

Wedding gigs are great!
Watching Grandma (who is almost deaf anyway) complaining constantly that you are too loud and the Brides father doing the "Dads dance" to Back in Black is always amusing for...

Re: Any Fellow Drummers Also Gym Rats?

Hey Wopsey,
1.5 hours just on arms sounds like a massive effort on two small muscle groups!!! Watch out for burn out.
I agree with most of the posts here that shoulders and biceps are the killer...

Re: PA system. Who pays?

Hi All,
I have been off line for a while so it is good to catch up again!
In our band, we hired PA gear for a few gigs until we had enough cash to buy one without being out of pocket. Now the whole...

Re: I left my band and possibly might quit drums

Hey SickRick,
I am new here and don`t know you or your drumming but I think I can share your pain!
All I know is that I was forced away from drumming for various reasons and now that I am back, I...

When you`re young enough to get a good education; you`re not old enough to appreciate what you are being given!!!

Re: need a little help, hand cramp

Fluid (water), salt and potassium will all help to reduce the risks of cramp as will the right sticks.
I used to suffer cramp in my hands and fore arms and read an article by a pro drummer (I think...

Re: No one likes drummers...

No one likes drummers?
Kylie Minogue told Robbie Williams that "she likes drummers best". If Kylie thinks I`m cute who cares what anyone else thinks!!!

Re: Good drumming to the audience

Honestly, I have found that playing in a classic rock band, if we play a couple of tunes where the drums open with a strong 4/4 beat with maybe a double kick on 3, and you put in a few round the kit...

Re: Requirements for stage clothing

Yeh, I bought an original in black too but just a light weight one as I am sure my clan kilt would be way too hot. I reckon shorts are a definite "must" to protect my throne and also my modesty! I...

Re: Requirements for stage clothing

Normally for me, in a classic rock band, it is shorts for the comfort and freedom and a T-shirt on top but, like Florian, I have just bought a plain black kilt (even more freedom!). I haven`t gigged...

Re: I need some advices about playing

Hey Loseless,
I think some of the problem is that you are so down on yourself, you make it easy for others to ridicule.
Remember why you play drums; you love the sound, the feel, the buzz!
If you...
