Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

That may be fair, and it may not be fair. At around 20% of the take, it doesn't sound too bad really.

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

There are lots of things that humans do, where most people who do them do so for free, often at great expense, but the very best are paid a lot of money to do them.

Golf
Writing
Tennis...

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

Why does that surprise?

"Having economic value" is not the same as "being essential for life". Having economic value means that the price mechanism is necessary to ration the available supply.

Re: How to improve listening skills?

I very seldom disagree with Her Madge. I'm just not that brave.

But the thing is, even if you try and sound like a clone, chances are, unless you are a very, very good drummer indeed, you will...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Just some basics...

A block of 6 pairs of ProMark TX5AW sticks

New batter heads for the toms - ordered Evans G2 Clears which I should see early next week. Confession: descriptions of drum head...

Re: Right foot heel up technique goes "missing" after 3 week tour.

Your heel up technique is clearly living by the old maxim...

What goes on tour stays on tour.

It'll be back in a few weeks, perhaps slightly overly affectionate, and a bit tetchy if you ask...

Re: Better to buy a used fully set up kit or go parts at a time

If the POS kit really is S, don't spend a cent on it.

Save up for a mid level kit that will stand you in good stead. I'll say Pearl Export because that's what I have, but there are equivalent...

Re: Major Personal Milestone Achieved

I wanted to keep it...but SWMBO threw it out when I wasn't looking. :(

Nah...at rehearsal.

I break out a fresh set of sticks for a gig. It's a thing I do.

Ok, it's a thing I've done...

Re: Drumming and tennis

Two sports?

Here in 'Straya "footy" could be any one of four codes.

Re: Drinking and Drumming

I find that most of the replies in the tennis and drumming thread have driven me to drink.

They are different rackets entirely (try the veal!).

Tennis, like all ball sports, requires an above average intuitive understanding of physics coupled with fast reflexes.

Drumming requires...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

What does that even mean?

Overrated by who? And how?

Here are some other drummers who seem to be "over rated": Ringo Starr, Phil Rudd, Meg White, Lars Ullrich, Charlie Watts.
