Re: Would You Match A Kit To Fit An Audition?

"Naturally it is all about my ability, connecting with the bands / artists and playing the parts as they want to hear them." (Quote)

That would suggest a pro act and you will be a hired gun? If...

Re: I'm at a loss. I can't tune a drum to save my life.

As the man said above, eliminate variables.

Strip the kit down and lube the tension rods to they can be moved using fingers only. Check the bearing edges for obvious damage or roughness. You...

Re: Would You Match A Kit To Fit An Audition?

I know its easy to talk extremes but I am sure you already konw, a Jazz kit for Jazz and a power kit for Rock. As for electronics? I dont know, even if they would be appropriate is it worth it for...

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

Nice one dear lady. Couldnt happen to a nicer person. Well...it could, it could happen to me, but lets not go there. Its a gig, and a good venue by the sound of it, just enjoy and let whatevere else...

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

Thats what is meant by playing behind or in front of the beat. The beat is felt, in the right place, and played either on, before or behind it. Thats what is meant by the time being elastic. Think...

Re: Left or Right play?

A lefty playing right, all the time, will, all else being equal, not have a weak hand. I am a righty playing right and have to work hard on my weaker left hand. Think about it.

Re: What's your favorite drumset category? Drums, cymbals or hardware

Hardware, but in a different way. I have just ditched all my cymbal stands by using clamps and boom arms, attached to the hi-hat stand and the BD tom mount, and mounting the ride off the floor tom...

Re: Bought an e-kit (Yamaha DD65) - Lessons off YouTube, DVDs or teacher?

We all learn in different ways and speeds, go with the method that suits you. If you are the personality that needs formal lessons and a tutor to report to and display progress, go with that. If...

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

You have said before about doing what you feel you "Should" be doing, or because people spent lots of money on a gift you feel obliged. Try doing what you"Want" to do, play the instrument you realy...

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

+1.

A piano, for scales, is still the instrument, a pad is not a drum kit. No BD or H-H, no toms or cymbals. Its the interplay between the hands and feet that make a drummer, unless you want to...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

As a resource for chatting to like minded people and for checking out gear reviews and prices, its great, I would hate to be without it.

As an influence on my playing? not at all. I am not...

Re: Should I Do It?

If you are looking for perfection, in music, then you will wait a long time. As I intimated, music is about emotions, living in the moment, if the band is cooking then its perfect as far as I am...

Re: Chris Squire, Yes Bassist found dead

+1. I would have loved to have played in the same rhythm section. I would not have needed to leave room for him as he played everywhere but where you expected. Genius.

Re: Who inspires you the most?

Stewart Copeland. He inspired me so much after watching him at a small gig, that I bought a kit the following weekend and resumed drumming after a 6 year break.

Re: Should I Do It?

Dont let the exam Police batter you with the guilt thing. Young people have far,far too much pressure put on them almost from birth with constant exams. If one night away from study will ruin your...

Re: Should I Do It?

Its a gig, do it. Unlike exams there is no pressure and it will get you out of the "Exam Mode" for a couple of hours. A break is good, if you are sweating it I would guess you have done lots of study...

Re: Bad gig, good learning experience.

As I said in my last post. Comfort zone is the key. We all have to play in "Wrong" situations or venues, or stages where we cant hear what the other musicians are playing. Thats why we need to...

Re: Unreliable band members

I would point out the problems to the bassist first and find out If they have the time, or have the desire, to do more practice at home. Tell them how motivated the rest of the members are and find...

Re: Bad gig, good learning experience.

Thats the most important lesson right there. Dont try anything new, equipment wise, at a gig. Stick with what you know and are comfortable with. If you want to change something do it during practice...
