Re: Open handed technique

I've been dabbling in open-handed technique in a couple songs. Being a right-hander, I like how it frees up the right hand to play accents and fills with the right hand while I keep time on the hats...

Re: Buying options, need help!

There are ways to make crap drums sound better..I think you have your drumming priorities mixed up. Get the good cymbals and snare first, then worry about the drums. To be honest, if you can tune OK,...

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Unless you get a teacher, then playing with others is the only way to go. maybe try a different genre like reggae or some Texas shuffle,or study jazz with a teacher.

I've been playing off and on,...

Re: bass drum depth

I like 14" deep for a 22" bass drum. It follows the Golden Proportion Ratio.

Re: Band Hunting

Maybe you can find a good local practice spot in town, like a 24-hour lockout room, and start your own band by inviting other musicians to your place for jamming/auditioning. Let them do the drive,...

Re: Buying first kit, 2 options, which kit would you go for?

LX/LXE - Drums made from maple and come in a lacquer finish. LXE series drums come in exotic lacquer finishes.

I don't even photograph my drums unless there is a good reason.

Re: Tommy Ramone - major influence

I played this kit last night, no splash though. Tommy would've been proud.

Re: Trimmed down kits

I made it a mission of mine to have a complete gig kit where I didn't need a thing from the studio kit. I played it tonight and got more accolades on my playing on this kit than I do with the 5-piece...

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

I would say only do this coffee thing if it leads directly to jamming that day. I mean, I've never had this problem with Craigslist people, but we've all heard some horror stories. I don't think this...

Re: DW Designer Series

Yep. This is the kit I'm going to get when I finally get a new kit. I played them at GC when I was trying out a new bass pedal. Wonderful tone and good projection. I like the smaller turrets too. The...

Re: Trimmed down kits

I'm playing tomorrow with a 4 piece kit w/ 13/16 concert toms, one ride, hats and one crash (gotta have the crash man). It does feel gutsy, but I played the sets in practice with this set-up.

Re: Joey Kramer joins Pearl Drum Company

Lars has been with Tama and Zildjian his whole career. Alex Van Halen has been with Ludwig the whole time, but I think he played a Nooble & Cooley snare according to my friend.

Re: Recommendation for snare and hi-hat.

Based on your links, I would pretty much reiterate what Al Parrott said.

I had a PDP Ace snare drum and it was OK, but I gave it to my nephew and got a Pork Pie Big Black (Bob), which looks...

Re: The best kits we've ever made - Honest Capture videos!

I'll have to go with the English Ash as my favorite sounding kit there. I like the deepness of the walnut, but overall the ash has the dynamic range I would go for myself. The Walnut sounds great...

Re: Searching for my first drum set

The kits are nice, but like the other memebers are saying, the cymbals are crap. So, if you buy one of those kits, do it knowing full well that the cymbals will have to be replaced if you get ...
