Re: Problem with Toms 'n Bass

It's just sympathetic resonance. If you are not close-mic'ing the kit, it won't be heard in a live setting. In a rehearsal/practice room, you either throw zero rings on there or accept that the drums...

Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

All this is one of the reasons house parties are becoming popular in my area again. Gotta watch the law re: alcohol and noise, but it is still more lucrative.

I suppose, thinking back on it, house...

Re: Nuggets of hard won wisdom

Nuggets are easier to come by in WA and CO.

Oh, wait, nuggets of wisdom...

Mine are few and far between. What works for me is playing fairly simply and minding the details.

Re: Changing Sticks

I agree with Pyro, the taper will have a much bigger influence on rebound than tip shape.

There is no set time for trying out a stick. What I have found over many years of playing is that most any...

Kiss -Alive
Rush - All the World's a Stage/Permanent Waves
Steely Dan - Aja
Foo Fighters - Nothing Left to Lose
Led Zeppelin - IV/Houses of the Holy

To name but a few!

Oh, I forgot two that...

Re: Drummer quiz: What kind of drummer are you?

I seem to be stuck in the endless loop between having been replaced by a drum machine and jamming to the washing machine...

Marry that girl and start buying her stuff too. What an awesome household that would be! lol

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I heard a little anecdote once.

Man opens a door for woman.

"You don't have to open the door just because I'm lady!"

"I didn't, ma'am. I opened it because I am a gentleman."

Re: Anyone else dislike suspension mounts?

Haha!! I have no man card (I would have burned it in honor of Madge's thread, but I threw it out long ago, lol), and I live on the move. I don't want any more stuff!! Haha! Funny, though.

Re: Anyone else dislike suspension mounts?

One quick question about the Atlas mount. Does anyone know for sure if they fit the hole spacing for the Ludwig MINI-Classic lugs? I'm not sure if the minis use a different spacing than the regular...

Re: Anyone else dislike suspension mounts?

OK, so I'm not completely alone.

I understand the mount probably lets the drum resonate more, but my floor tom has THREE brackets screwed to it and resonates forever, if I tune it to do so.

I...

Anyone else dislike suspension mounts?

I was just changing out my rack tom head, and I find it such a PITA to deal with the RIMS type mount. I also feel like it sometimes caused the drum to detune.

I fully intended to mount the bracket...

Re: Mick Fleetwood

FWIW, when I play this song I play open handed. I find it so much easier to replicate the feel of that tom part when playing open. I also play Rhiannon open handed, although on the original recording...

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

There are TONS of drummers in my area, but very, very few good ones.

Guitarists aren't plentiful, but I am lucky enough to work with a couple of the good ones.

Bass players. I have the hardest...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

This definitely shows the differences in locale. Calling anyone "love" in North Idaho would most certainly raise an eyebrow, and might get you punched in certain situations, lol.

However, nearly...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

This thread has reminded me of my first reaction to a particularly Western United States term, "gals." My wife at the time interviewed for a job, and after the interview we were talking informally...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I'm with this. Too much political correctness going on in the world today. I bear no malice toward anyone one of any gender or sexual orientation, nor do I accept blame for slights against anyone....

Re: Who does this, really?

I think you are justifying your choice with false logic. The extra cost of high-end drums isn't necessarily because they are "built for the road."

On the other hand, I'm perfectly OK with your...

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

What you describe doesn't sound like moving on, it sounds like ADDING on. Most people enjoy new experiences, whether it is a trip to a new city or listening to new music. It doesn't mean you've...

Re: Neil Peart Borrows Max Roach?

Interestingly, on the last tour Neil ditched the longer solo and did three shorter pieces. I much preferred that format, myself. I haven't really been a fan of drum solos more than a few bars long...

Re: Neil Peart Borrows Max Roach?

On the plus side, when Neil incorporates The Drum Also Waltzes into his solo, he doesn't really try to make it jazz, he just uses the 3/4 ostinato to solo over.

On the negative side, I read or...
