Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Blimey....way out.

Very smart. And they'd float, which is handy, being as I live in Manchester :-)

If it's not an impertinant question, how long would it take Guru to build that beauty from...

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

The three toms look far more progressive in depth/width than many.

What are they 12x10 12x12 14x14 ??

They do look smart though. If you're ever out of space and need someone to 'mind' a set...

Re: Musicians Union?

Sorry...my snarky comment about the Union getting paid relates to Union subscriptions.

There is a hot potato in the UK regarding Union leaders who, generally speaking, now take very sizeable fat...

Re: Musicians Union?

Just my opinion, from a band member of an unsigned band (or, to be more precise, a band member signed to the bands own label)

One of the MUs major 'aims' in the UK is to address the 'pay to play'...

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Marketing is amazing...

Many years ago I used to have a Mapex kit. Can't remember the exact model. Upgraded to it after I first invested in a Mapex Pro. Top spec it was. Cost me a lot of money...

Re: screwed up my first gig

Done the same myself when I've not been so well, or don't feel in the zone.

There's worse things to do ...

Re: That moment.....when the band are 'on it'....

Couldn't agree more. Can sometimes make an evening.

We spent at least half an hour after this gig just laughing about that ONE specific moment. In fact I'm still laughing about it now. I don't...

Re: That moment.....when the band are 'on it'....

Next time I'm on it !

It's going straight into it without pause...else it doesn't fit the gap :-)

I'm not sure you can see me and the bassist absolutely wetting ourselves on the video....but we...

Re: That moment.....when the band are 'on it'....

Jeez...getting spoilt.

We did another support slot (which I generally don't enjoy so much) on Saturday night and we all felt we were 'on it'. Great crowd, very responsive, and absolutely brilliant...

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Isn't it in fact called a 'wooden block' ??

I could be wrong. I'm sure I recall hitting them things back in school

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Jesus yes. Some people are absolutely clueless.

Anyone with half a brain should only need to take a single look at that kit to see it oozes quality.

I'll buy one, one day when alimony ends, and...

Re: screwed up my first gig

If it's a consolation I did a gig recently where I personally had to call time on the song about a minute in. First time I've EVER done this. And I've been in gigging bands on and off since I was in...

Re: Member leading other members on in a series of misleading questions in threads.

What am I missing?

I've asked plenty of questions over the years that I THOUGHT I knew the answer to but value people's opinions on whom have more expertise than me.

And really...you sound like...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

Couldn't agree more.

First couple of gigs my band did before I got my acoustic set I used the electric drums...they were ok. Really, the were. They did a better job, and sounded better, than...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

Took me about half an hour to build the frame and set the drums.

Then there are colour coded wires from the brain to the pads and pedals.

Turn on...turn knob one to the right for the first of...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

Listen. If an absolute halfwit like me can buy, unbox, wire up, programme, and play the damn things....then trust me when I say that anyone can :-)

Joking apart...E Drums are VERY easy to set up...

Re: Paul Wilson: 15-Year Old Drummer for the 33rd U.S. Colored Troops Regiment

That's rather mind blowingly amazing.
Crosses into both my boundaries of interest, drums and military history (esp. WW2 and ACW)
Wow. Just wow.
I wish I could 'rep' you. Thanks for posting this.

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

Sorry. Not correct. An Alesis DM8 or 10 will cost around 100 second hand....I think mine was 400 brand new.

And it's GREAT fun to play.

And god, a practice pad? For real? Jesus, if my wife...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

I couldn't agree more....great post Jim. Well put.

I actually would argue that the MAJOR advantages of an Ekit over it's acoustic big brother far outweigh the disadvantages.

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

Really I have to disagree.

I know exactly where you're going with this but I have both acoustic and Edrums. And not a particularly advanced Edrum kit.

I can tune my Edrums to give me a 'feel'...

Re: Tempus ordered, payed in April- snare still not there

The fee's are very minor and as a buyer I have no problem paying the extra few quid to cover the fees for the protection it gives me.

Course, a seller who has no intention of fulfilling his side...

Re: Tempus ordered, payed in April- snare still not there

I wouldn't trade with anyone who refused to accept Paypal (and/or Credit Card) in payment.

That's a huge red alert right there.
