Re: When disaster strikes: Your opinion

After my pets and family, well, the drums can burn. Maybe I'd grab a few significant cymbals, but otherwise, it's as others have said; documents, pictures, and maybe a few other things, time allowing.

Re: Your approach to supporting a solo.

For me, it depends on which instrument is playing the solo as well. If it's the guitar, I'll accent along with his phrasing. Piano? Lay back a bit more, while still accenting the really tasty bits....

Re: Turned down a sub gig

Definitely the right call. Funny how that always ends up happening after talking to the wife, eh?

Re: What method of drum video critiquing do you go by?

I tend to comment on what I like for videos. I very rarely offer critique, even if specifically asked for. In those cases, I usually just don't say anything.

Re: Renting kits to try out

I agree with Les here. Renting kits can get fairly expensive for sure, and when I go to my local music stores, every single one lets me tune, dampen, and play the drums all for free. Heck, they even...

Re: HELP! I need a good inexpensive snare fast!

...Musicians? I thought we were drummers? Lol.

To stay on topic: Acrolite. That beauty will work for everything and more.

Re: Intersting article on Beats Headphones

Yep, gotta say I agree. Beats are an overhyped POS brand made popular by marketing. My Sennheiser HD 280 Pros are infinitely superior by comparison, and a lot of audiophiles think even those are...

Re: Playing others' kits

Yikes! I'd be miserable if I had to play that kit. My band just played last in a 4 band show, but since it was my band that organized the entire event, I had the benefit of using my own kit, while...

Re: First gig in 2.5 years!

Hey man, congrats! I'm also somewhat of an infrequent gigger myself, as my band is an eclectic group of individuals with lives, but I always love getting that chance to play.

I hope it goes well...

Re: Tama Silverstar lacquer quality/durability?

This.

My brother has a Silverstar kit, and I assure you that the lacquer is quite durable.

Re: The Rim Shock - Auxiliary Percussion for the Drum Kit

Oh wow. I'd love to have one of these on my side snare for sure. Sounds and looks cool. I'd love to play one of these.

Re: Popped in at Andy's for a cup of tea ...

I wish that was as easy for me as just popping in for a cuppa...

That's an absolutely gorgeous kit, enjoy :)

Re: Ideas for good 2nd ride to pair with 22" K Light Ride.

Either a 24" Light Ride, and move the 22 to the left, or, and hear me out, a Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Dual Crash Ride. I have a 20 Dual on the left of my 24 LR, and it blends wonderfully.

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

To me, DW is no better, and no worse than any other drum company. They make fine instruments that sound good, just as all other manufacturers.

I am particularly fond of their Eco X kits though....

Re: What kit do you use?

My main kit that gets used for everything from gigs to home practice is a 6 piece Tama Starclassic maple in 10/12/16/22 with an SLP G-Bubinga and Starphonic Bubinga for the snares.

I have a bunch...

Ontario, Canada
Weekend warrior? Lol. I play in a classic rock covers band that gigs now and again.
I'm 22.

That about what you're looking for?

Re: 20" or 22" Double Kick setup

For two kicks, I'd take the 20s, since triggers will definitely be involved in your case. The Tama B/Bs can be tuned to deliver some wicked punch, with sweet bottom end though, so even playing...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

Angled snare drums. Those drive me crazy. Unless you play traditional grip, then your snare should not be angled *grumble*

Re: Which wood type to go with

Man, all I can tell you on top of what has been said, is to go to a store and hit some drums. With that kind of budget, you won't be displeased with any of the high-end offerings from the mentioned...

Yeah this is waaaaay more fun than it should be. What is it they say about simple minds...?

Damn. I love it.

Re: Bob Clearmountain & Matt Chamberlain Recording Drums With 2 Mics

I do agree with you on the two overheads, for sure. I should have specified what I meant by "fewer mics".

The Ludwig Atlas mount is the only thing I can think of that might get you what you need:

Re: Drumless track in 5/4 to help you practice playing different time signatures

Rather than play to a great drumless track some one took the time to make/post for us?

Thanks for the track, I enjoy it, and your channel!
