Re: Cutting down snare wires

I now buy Puresound 12 strand concert snares. They are crisp and articulate as all get out, with minimal buzz.

Re: Ludwig Copper Phonic

Copper is a wonderful metal, and is used, along with wood, in concert snares. AK copper concert snares are astounding . . .

Re: Effects of snare depth on tuning?

I have found that I get a better low and fat tuning out of my 5" deep drum than my 6 1/2" drum, and i thought that it would be the opposite.

Re: Ludwig Copper Phonic

With diplomat weight concert heads, and 12 strand concert snares, that would make one wonderful concert snare! Love the single flange hoops and tube lugs.

Re: How can I make a shallow snare sound deeper

I have found that more wires indeed, do not make a brighter sound. They make a "wetter" sound, and work against an articulate sound. That is why I switched to Puresound concert wires. Don't let the...

Re: How can I make a shallow snare sound deeper

You are right about that! the overlay is very different. I find that my 5" aluminum with the overlay has a fatter tonal quality, as well as sounding lower. Just a regular Emp. head is very different,...

Re: How can I make a shallow snare sound deeper

I cut out a 14" Emporere reso head, hazy, and place it on the head. It adds about 5 mils to your head, adn drops the sound by about a 4th. I can make my 5" snare sound like a 6 1/2 instantly. The...

Re: About to get supraphonic LM400

I also vote for keeping the originals in case you ever want to sell. On Ludwig snares, you just can't go wrong with Remo Ambassador weight coated batter and hazy reso.

Re: Show us your 3 piece kits!

A 3 piece set forces you to be more innovative on what you have! Since most agree that the snare drum is the most important, and the set is built around it, with 3 pieces, snare come front and...

Re: Show us your 3 piece kits!

Good heavens, I am drooling all over my shirt! I prefer 3 or 4 pece sets when I play sets.

Re: Am I nitpicking?

Send it back. I am sure that any reputable store will make it right. You should get an equal new drum for that money, no "fix it".

Re: Copper Phonic Video Demo

I have heard a number of copper shelled drums, and copper has a nice tone. Still I think a person can get by with everything with one good maple (read wood) snare, and a good aluminum one. A good...

Bearing edges on Ludwig metal snares

I am trying to get an idea what the bearing edges are on Ludwig Supra snares. Since they are rolled flanges, are they closer to 30 degree (vintage) edges, or are they close to 45 degrees? Anyone have...

Re: Today, I came out . . .

That Tama aluminum got by me. . . But I will be happy with the Pearl. Also, I decided to stay away from any chrome over aluminum. Don't want to deal with eventual pitting. Brushed aluminum looks...

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

Re: Made a new marching snare

I made an adjustment on this drum. I took of the 16 strand Puresounds and added Black Swamp yellow cable snares. Now this has a really classic gut sound, with great articulation. Rudiments really pop...
