Re: Lars Ulrich

Mr Grohl is another story altogether but for anyone to say he is crap...huh?? Got more session recordings than I'll ever have.

Lars was one of the first drummers I took notice of and I respect...

Re: Lars Ulrich

The way I see Lars is that he is to me for Metal what Ringo Starr was to the Beatles and rock music past his emergence.

That may be sacrilege to some but Lars was never a conventional drummer by...

Re: Silly branding things that shouldn't matter (but do!)

I can totally relate. Pretty much every cymbal I own, if it is not a Zildjian cymbal then I introduce the non-Zildjian to Barkeepers Friend and then remove the logo on both sides. This has actually...

Re: Advice on setting up 'Bonzo Bash' style event in UK

Probably not and I apologise for being perhaps a little impatient. There seems to be so many experts here I wrongly assumed someone would have something to say.

The more I reflect upon...

Re: Advice on setting up 'Bonzo Bash' style event in UK

Can one of the admin delete this please? If nobody can be bothered to reply or offer any help what is the point of leaving it up.

So frustrating!

Advice on setting up 'Bonzo Bash' style event in UK

Hi guys,

I have just started up a new Led Zeppelin tribute in Leicester, England. We are called 'Hammer of the Gods' at the moment.

I am looking at all a manner of ways to get our name about...

Re: How much is my kit worth/what's it made of?

You are so so so lucky to have picked up a Saturn for $500!!! In the UK they are selling second hand for 800 so probably more like $1300 in US money!

They are walnut shells as far as Im aware...

Re: The worst gig of my life

I really don't get all of this and maybe I am naive, but what is wrong with just saying to the promoter or the other drummers that you are willing to provide your own kit for others to share?

Just...

Re: Preparing for an audition

Thanks for this post as it is informative. I was playing alone to backing tracks that were very sparse in terms of what was going on. I've never been trained in doing sound engineering. After all,...

Re: Preparing for an audition

Well...the audition was so much of a success that i got turned down with the old card "we got someone who has experience in functions bands". It bought back very painful memories of the phrase "on...

Re: Preparing for an audition

Good point. I guess if its anything like a job interview you arent allowed to ask the meaning of the question just interpret it. Being autistic that is a minefield and then some...

Re: RUSH retirement rumor

I'll be personally gutted as I was hoping they'd stop by the UK one more time so I could see them once. I had the chance around the time they did R30 and turned it down rather foolishly, but as a 30...

Preparing for an audition

Hi guys sorry I use this forum more to ask questions than to provide insight (merely because I don't always believe I can offer the same advice as guys like Bermuda and Larryace etc). But I'm hoping...

Re: The 2015 funky Guru snare competition starts now! Entry details :)

I've had a listen to the track. My my...fantastic piece of music. Victory or no victory this is going to be a very instructive exercise for me personally :)

Thanks for giving us a chance to win...

Woooo the voting ends on my birthday. Cannot wait to try and dig into this track although I am just learning the ideas of funk drumming :)

Re: Before I just jump in & do this ------

Looking forward to this. Was hoping it could be a challenge set around the Odds in Evens backing track but I guess there's too many videos for that anyway. :-)

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

I'm surprised nobody has yet mentioned moving the bass drum off to the side and clamping the rack toms so they sit in the middle. This is perhaps more ergonomic as you are not twisting yourself...

Re: Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

My worst experience has been auditioning for a guy who wants to do a heavy blues type band, where I had to audition songs Ball & Biscuit (White Stripes), Just Got Paid (ZZ Top) and Numb (Gary Clark...

Re: Does playing covers change you?

Playing covers has made me a lot more mature and taught me to look for good in even the very worst songs.

What kills me is playing the same covers every single gig because the other band members...

Re: Neil Peart

With music as complicated as Rush can be, I'm glad it sounds like the CD in a way. It would alienate the listeners.

Same can be said with Portnoy although he did change things up a little bit with...
