Re: Whose voice would you like to have counting on your metronome?

For a slow tune, definitely Simon Phillips.

Re: Solid and tight drumming

Are people really not bothered by the title of the thread? Sure, the drumming IS solid and tight, but that's not up to OP to judge.

Here, by the way, is where you post your playing....

Re: TOM TUNING

I agree. My suggestion is to tune the resonant head just a little higher than the batter. There is a certain overall pitch for every drum that will have the best sound properties, maximum resonance...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Feeling like you're not getting any body out of your drums and cymbals...Chipping tips causing sharp edges that dent drum heads... Nope, this is why I use nylon tips!

Re: Double bass technique observations

There are other factors involved in the feel of the kick, the pitch relation between the batter and the reso head most notably, as well as muffling of course. I tune the batter head low, but...

Re: Good exercises for two-handed hi-hat beats?

I'd say, learn this tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRlm66Zj9Cg

Re: What's the best things about your playing?

Yeah, this. Especially the left hand, I've done countless hours of just 3 taps of 16th note single strokes along to music at whichever tempo feels the best, it has gotten very good lately and I...

"Deadman" by Karnivool.

Really nice intro!

Re: Bad habits and what you struggle with now.

Yeah... Just do it! Took me no longer than a few months, after 7 years of burying, to completely switch to bouncing the beater without having to think about it at all. This change allowed me to...

Re: 8 inch tom help please?

I have 10 mil single ply reso and 12mil single ply batter on my 8" tom, reso tuned roughly F# and batter head just slightly lower.

Re: Flams, Double Strokes and Swiss Army Triplets

Youtube needs a 10 hour version of this for hypnotizing purposes.

Re: Soloing question

Sure, it is good a way to start a solo. But every time a drummer does it, all I think is "Oh, it's another solo starting with a press roll.... next".

Re: Setting up left-handed

I've done this as well, except I played open handed with right hand and foot on the hi-hat, and bassdrum with the left foot. I played that setup for about three weeks, got sick of it after a while....

Re: Snare buzz

A, 440hz, is the way to go. Tune the batter lower if the drum gets choked at that point.

Thought I'd add, I removed 12 strands from my 20 strand Puresound pro, since I prefer less snare wire...

Re: Drilling A Hole In your Thumb

I have had a similar accident when I was working on my bassdrum riser. Managed to slice up about half a centimeter(I'd say that's roughly 1/40 of a banana for you americans) of skin/flesh, pretty...

Re: Musicians who don't listen to music.

Oh that's brilliant.

I can see, however, how this would be an interesting experiment in music composition. Say, a 5 man band, one only listens to music from the 70s, one only from the 80s and so...

Re: What's your favourite metal/ rock beat?

Would have been SO much better if he had just used to fill two or three times in that song.

Re: Mapex Horizon Birch tuning and heads

I think you're gonna want to have some clear ambassadors or clear Evans G1 as resos. Diplomat heads are a bit thinner, suited for very light playing.

Oh that was a good laugh, loving the irony. :D

I have a suggestion, how about sharing the story or event that made you form your affection for that perosn? Instead of just listing names! I'd love...
