Re: Switching grips

Traditional doesn't seem awkward to me...it seems quite literally impossible to the extent that I wonder what I'm doing that's majorly wrong, and whether I have 'dodgy' limbs or something.

The...

Re: Ever look back at videos of yourself playing and cringe?

No...when I see pics and/or vids which other people have take of me I always think I look a real fat bastard...but I don't care.

I wonder about this modern day paraphilia that people have about...

Re: Funnest Gig you've ever played?

Band I'm in opened at the Salford Music Festival last year.

We played at a venue called Wangies in Salford. We assumed the entire thing was going to be rubbish. No-one there. Rough part of town.

Re: HELP: Which road do I take?

Agree with you. They'd probably be really pissed off with you. But, if you are actually friends with them (rather than just a passing musical acquaintance) then I can guarantee to you that those...

Re: HELP: Which road do I take?

I'd carry on with the originals because a) I prefer playing originals, b) value my friends and wouldn't want to drop them for a better offer and c) I don't need 80-100 per gig as I have a well paid...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Like the tune but the singer needs to learn the words....that would absolutely drive me mental

Dire Straits....

Does anyone remember a drummer called Terry Williams who played for Dire Straits. Featured on their Alchemy live album ?

Just watching it again now for the first time in perhaps 20 years.

What...

Re: Diplomacy isn't dead, but...

It would have irritated me and I'd have ended up spoiling the night for everyone. So well done for not doing so and being the bigger man.

God, I hate bellends like this guy you described.

Re: Should I be upset? Would you be upset? Watch video. (Warning, big mistake in my playing)

Honestly, I think your singer (from what I've read from you on this thread of him) would be horrified if he read this thread and realise that his action may have upset you.

I did a gig a few weeks...

Re: Being in an X band, playing shows with crappy Y bands

Venues almost unilaterally are only interested in how many people the bands will bring to watch them....that's how it is in NW England anyway.

The Tivoli in Buckley (a large venue in North Wales)...

Re: Being in an X band, playing shows with crappy Y bands

We did a gig about twelve months ago in Manchester.

We're a fairly melodic punk band...most akin to something like the Undertones. In the sense that we want to play fairly fast and loud but we...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I could only ever find a single clip for Karen Carpenter in terms of her sat behind a drum kit playing it (plenty of percussion clips...glockenspiel etc...but no drums).

But on the clip I saw of...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I find her smile when playing a little disturbing.

It seems forced...and innapropriate. Hard to explain. It doesn't seem like she's smiling because she's enjoying playing. She sort of looks at the...

Re: Practicing on an electric kit....

Ironically it's my modest Alesis DM electric kit which has been the most important drumming investment I have made in my life. More so than any cymbal I purchased, and indeed any acoustic kit (even...

I totally agree.

Have to say I can't see anything particularly wrong with the response either.

Jeez....should see some of the exchanges we have in our band. People here would draw the...

Re: Great car for a drummer

Nah...it's sad but when you have drums practicality quickly takes over from good looks...I get that

Re: Great car for a drummer

Man I hope it's practical because that's quite possibly the ugliest car I ever saw :-)

Jeez, was it made by the descendants of Albert Speer (no curves...everything square).

Kidding ya...who...

You'd be more welcome if you could send a Guru kit up to Lancashire....

You must have one knocking about surely :-)

Happy Christmas to you, your family and everyone on the board.

Re: Fee...

Hey thanks everyone.

I briefed the chief negotiator (our singer/manager) on pretty much all the advice directly given here.

We've been given a figure which easily covers all our expenses and a...

Re: Is it wrong to ask...

You asked, he answered. Seemed fair enough to me.

As a band, we wouldn't do this, regardless of pay. We're all very good friends. It would feel like a betrayal of our singer. But we don't do music...

Re: Heavy music, where did the ride go?

ONLY use my ride but get all manner of different feel and vibe out of it (24" Sabian APX).

Only use my high hat on left foot...hardly every strike it....and have started not even taking it to gigs...

Thanks for all your advice on this guys.

Which, going from the history of bands I'm in paying any attention to advice from...
