Re: Thoughts on the new era of band promotion

I totally agree.

I think the nature of live music has changed so much since I started gigging that I don't recognise it anymore. Promotion, as you pointed to Bermuda, is easier now than it has...

Re: Thoughts on the new era of band promotion

Its a problem and a big one at the moment, no-one wants to pay for bands as you say Steve. Bands have got to say no to playing for free, these so called charity events would either disappear or they...

Re: do the pearl w/f drums really sound this good?

Yeah, that's a good point. I think I worry that my local store may disappear in favour of online and I really enjoy going in there and seeing what's on offer, chatting and hearing the latest bit of...

Re: Brexit

One of the quotes from from a member of the government spearheading the leave campaign was "we've all had enough of experts". A simple throw away remark designed to be a mantra to say that we...

Re: The Changing Sound Of Drums

I have a similar thing HJ, some days I hate my snare, swap it out for another one for a few gigs, then go back to the original and absolutely love it! I think KIS is right, its my perception of how...

Re: do the pearl w/f drums really sound this good?

Isn't this where we all lament the disappearance of drum shops in favour of on-line buying? Where the drums could be played before purchasing and advice given, rather than now having to rely upon...

Re: Total Drum Tracks - Play Along Tracks

Hi TDT
Great stuff. Andy Staples is such a fantastic bass player! I've seen him play a couple of times and man he grooves!

Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

Perfectly put.

The issues with streaming comes down to music having very little perceived value. When the only way to get music into the home was to buy it then that was what people did. Now it is...

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

It does seem strange that festival organisers never have any expectations that they might get the PA for free, or the security, or the stage hire for free... but every expectation they will get the...

Re: Do you play the drum part exactly the same each night?

I used to play the songs the same every night I played them. I grew up listening to Budgie and he seemed to place every thing for a reason, a sizzled hi hat was there because he had thought about it....

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

Oh I see. My point was that maybe satisfaction is the wrong word to use. I'm not sure that satisfaction and contentment share the same meaning. The online dictionary needs a word other than the word...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

I know that feeling and it is magical.

I tell my children all the time that all they can do is try their hardest. That is it! They may not be brilliant at something but as long as they try their...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

If Buddy Rich is your only drumming goal, then of course you will never be satisfied. But its ok to have drumming goals that aren't Buddy Rich (replace with any other unachievable goal). This also...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

To never be satisfied seems a bit strange. Sure there are loads of things I can improve on and will always need to learn but why would that stop me being satisfied? Satisfaction is different to...

Trinity College drum kit grades

Has anyone here looked at the new grade books from Trinity yet? I've just picked up books grades 1,2 and grades 6,7. It is a slightly different format to the last syllabus and this time around there...

Re: Soundguys and drummers

OMG, he must really hate unported drums! There are a lot of bad mannered engineers out there. Is it a UK thing or do all countries have their fair share?

Re: Hihat flavours/accents - ignored in rock?

All my years of drumming and I still don't I get the hi hats right.

We supported a fairly well known band over here in the UK, they have been around for years, and the drummer has no hi hat I get...

Re: Soundguys and drummers

Pretty much what the others have said except if you want a certain thing then it does no harm to chat to the sound guy and tell him of any concerns you have about your drum kit. I might mention that...

Re: An attempt at a policy change here

I have never known anyone on any forum to be as openly helpful as KIS, ask him anything and he will respond with helpful advice that, as he says, has no benefit to him. I have long thought that KIS...

And on the same day they have anounced the missing Matisse and Picasso paintings turning up... More than just a coincidence I feel. *scratches chin whilst dusting off deerstalker*
