Re: Pearl Masters BCX demo video

This is my converted bedroom turned into drum room. So itís pretty small. The drums are distorted by the camera being really close and set to extreme wide angle, but the toms are 12x9 and 13x10. ...

Re: Pearl Masters BCX demo video

Well, they still make regular Reference, which still weigh a lot. But after owning the Reference Pure, I think theyíre kind of a one-trick long because of the combinations of woods. And I guess...

Re: Pearl Masters BCX demo video

Thinking about it now, Pearl no longer has a pure birch option. The Sessions and References do have birch, but they're mixed with other wood. I'm wondering if they will re-introduce a pure birch...

Re: Just an excuse to post a pic of my kit

You have a point. But they're the name that did it thanks to those early days with John Bonham and Karen Carpenter giving them the most exposure. Like Harley Davidson, Gibson, Fender, Martin,...

Pearl Masters BCX demo video

Sadly, Pearl's Masters BCX birch drums are a discontinued line, but I managed to get my hands on one - and I must say, they're pretty explosive. Years ago I played a Yamaha Recording Custom which...

Re: Lefty drummer problems

This is always a hot topic of discussion and many people have asked me why I play completely left-handed. Sometimes I wish I was forced to just learn how to play right-handed, but now looking back...

Re: Lefty drummer problems

No. I play lefty because thatís how Iím wired. What I see and what is me are two different things.

I do partially regret that my parents and mentors just didnít approach the drumset like a...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I do the same thing. My emotions dictate owning Ludwig, but my practical stuff is Pearl - I just know that stuff works no matter where I take them.

Re: To rack or not to rack?

I just never ran with that rack crowd so I know no one who actually has one.

Although I am seeing everyone's logic here, and I'll probably not try a rack. I do need the flexibility because I...

To rack or not to rack?

Since I already have a classic-looking 4-piece kit with flat based hardware for that kind of vibe, I'm debating (again?) for my new Pearl 5-piece Masters whether or not I should get a rack for it. ...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I've owned high end kits from Pearl, Gretsch, Ludwig, Yamaha, Tama, DW, and from earlier years Rogers and Slingerland, as well as some of their best snare drums.

I like them all - they're all...

Re: New Drums Weekend!

I did sort of compromise on the tom depths. For years, because of my height, I insisted on having 8x12 and 9x13 rack toms because I didn't want them too high for me. Raising everything up one inch...

Re: MOXIE - took the Pearls to a gig already

Well, I was ok on the swing things. Once we got to one of those latin/songo tunes, I was all over the place. So something new to work on.

I got my clear ambassadors back on, so I'll go with...

MOXIE - took the Pearls to a gig already

Well, not necessarily a gig, but it was a reading/rehearsal big band. Made up of local pros. The director was someone I hadn't seen in over 20 years since college and he shows up with about 20...

Re: Why is it called "Decade" Maple?

I think you should treat yourself ASAP. At the prices dealers are blowing them out at, there probably isn't much left now. And I think if you do find them, your only choices are shamrock green in...

Re: New Drums Weekend!

Lotsa life changes in the last five months. And headquarters announced this line is discontinued so inventory is being blown out, so I jumped on one just because. I've always been a fan of...

Re: New Drums Weekend!

They do sound great with the double-ply emperors they have on now. So Pinstripes would've been a good choice too. The clear ambassadors worked ok, but l couldn't get a deep enough tone out of the...

New Drums Weekend!

I received a new kit from headquarters yesterday.

Pearl Masters BCX birch drums in Golden Bronze Glitter: 12x9, 13x10 rack toms, 16x16 floor tom, 22x18 bass drum. Most of my kits are all maple,...

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

Yeah Tama has this thing about 11. They even made 11Ē toms. Apparently, nobody cared as much about 11 as Tama did though. Kinda like 23 with DW.

Re: Trick VMT Pub Kick

Perhaps beyond 14Ē deep itís a waste, but if you play double headed with no muffling, and no mics, you do notice a difference in depth sound.
