Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

I hate the look of two toms mounted centrally over the bass drum. It looks horrible. Remind me of some awful cabaret band or some unbearable BBC early evening entertainment TV.

Purely my own...

Re: Gretsch Walnut G5000 13" or 14"?

If you've tried the 14 and like it then why not get it?
If you buy the 13 without trying it you may want the hear what you have already heard.

Hopefully someone who has played the two can offer...

Re: Questions about 4 piece drum set up. What do you think?

Maybe sometimes you just play 6 drums and sometimes you play 4.
If you're having fun and what you are playing fits the music then everyone's a winner.

There is no right or wrong. 3 drums or 33...

Re: Can't decide on a rack tom size for a jazz kit

Wow! Beautiful kits. Especially the Gretsch's. I am very jealous!

Re: GRETSCH BROOKLYN mediocre bad quality?

Let us know what happens.
I heard of someone else having the same issue with a Brooklyn kit.
Doesn't seem to be a reported issue with the Renowns as far as I am aware. Unless anyone else knows...

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

Haha! No it's not.
That's just the basement in my work, I have the Breakbeats kit set up down there most of the time.
It's actually to help with drainage, it's very damp (and cold).
I take the...

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

I used one of these:
http://www.rhythmbase.co.uk/hardware/holders-and-clamps/clamps/dw-smmg-6-mega-clamp-cymbal-arm-combo.html

And then the post from a Gretsch tom arm to get it lower, as the...

Re: Snare building course

I've considered this course myself before. Maybe I should drop some hints to the young lady!

I'd love to hear how you get on and also see some pics of your finished new drum.
Have fun!

Re: My final jazz drum set. Is it good? Anything i can improve on?

You've looked out what you would like to buy which is cool and you have listened to everyone's advice regrading the cymbals.

What I would say is if you like the hardware (and stool) that you have...

Re: Gretsch Renown 18" or 20" bass drum

Thanks very much for all the replies folks.
Seems like my leaning toward the 18" may work out well. I like the comment about the 18" being so much fun to play. I don't think the size will be an...

Gretsch Renown 18" or 20" bass drum

Hi all,

I was hoping for a bit of advice, preferably from those who are familiar with the Gretsch Renown series.
I am planning to buy a Gretsch Renown kit in the next few months and am 80 or 90%...

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

I replaced the heads with coated Remo Ambassadors and tuned it the way I feel suits the music it's used for and the sizes of the drums. Makes a big difference.

It'll still never be to everyone's...

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

I own this kit and it must be one of the best drum purchases that I have ever made.
I have it set up in the basement at my work and take it to rehearsals with my jazz band, it's a fantastic kit....

Re: Played my first Gig last night.

I have to agree with STXBob on this, I just cannot imagine acoustic guitar and vocals with a full drum kit being a good combination. I think they asked you to carry on playing percussion with them...

I seen him on the last day of the Glasgow Jazz Fest back in July.

Re: Some band advice please guys :)

Have you thought about hiring a session player until such time as either you find a suitable replacement or your current players circumstances change?
It would allow you to keep playing and then you...
