Smoothing out Shaker/Maracas

I feel dumb for asking this, but I'd like some opinions on playing shaker.

Re: Click Track and Set List Software/Program/App!

Get Polynome for the iPhone/iPad, and get the pro-upgrade. Its 20 bucks, but well worth it. I'm pretty sure it can do everything there plus a lot more.

Re: You love the idea of it, but you are never happy with it (Drum gear)

The Sabian Omni cymbals. I snagged a good deal on one when they first came out, and it was just, disappointing.

Re: To all open handed drummers out there, need some advice!

Just keep doing it. It takes a while to get that left hand up to snuff. Try working through syncopation with the left hand keeping time and the right comping the rhythms, that helped me alot.

Re: Drummer's Cars

2005 Pontiac vibe. Back seats fold down, I can fit a 3 piece band's gear into it. The down side is that I usually get picked to drive to every gig I have!

Re: Progressing the Drum Kit

Electronics and loops are definitely part of the future. Figuring out ways to replicate electronic sounds on an acoustic kit are what some of the more ambitious drum companies are doing, and I love...

Re: What drum shops have you been to in your life?

Just Drums Richmond, VA. Taking lessons there right now. Good dudes working there, great selection, and they don't get too pissed off when I spend an hour playing cymbals.

All Pro Percussion...

Re: Awkward drum shop experience...

I'd like to point out that if you were at guitar center, you weren't at a drum shop. You were at a corporate guitar store that happens to have a drum section. There is a huge difference.

Re: What to record first?

Reggae is all about feel and grove. Try to record all of the rhythm tracks live, or at least the drums and bass. Record a few takes of every song, go for the best overall take.

Re: octabons vs. deccabons. vs. rototoms vs. piccolo toms

Depends on where you are gigging. If you are playing somewhere without a PA system, you'll need something to amplify it with and something to monitor with.
