Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

Probably just for aesthetics. I would be fine with smooth, polished aluminum with no chrome too. Chrome plating is pretty nasty for the environment, as well as the workers.

Telling him to avoid a problematic strainer IS being helpful.

Re: Rhythm magazine

Tough times for magazines all around. Some do manage to stay afloat, but I imagine they've all cut back on staff. I still buy a magazine now and then, but not as much as I used to.

Re: replacement ludwig throw

Seriously? Last time I checked one out it seemed massive. The Ludwig strainers don't stick so far out from the shell. The Dunnett, even when rotated, is still too bulky.

Re: replacement ludwig throw

Thus Dunnett monstrosities will never grace any of my drums.

Re: [New] Yamaha Tour Custom snare drums

It's a great snare, what else can I say? I've probably owned over 25 snares and this is as good as any. If you're playing a quiet gig, play it quieter.

I replaced the hoops with some cheap...

Re: [New] Yamaha Tour Custom snare drums

Yeah, I've had it for a couple weeks already. I got the last one in the color I wanted. I have a Recording Custom 8" deep snare ordered too, but it won't be arriving until May.

Re: [New] Yamaha Tour Custom snare drums

It's an amazing snare drum, especially for the price. I got one of the 6.5 deep ones from Cascio with a nice discount. Ludwig doesn't compare when you factor in the throw-off and adjustable butt.

Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

The first set I got were decent, but the second set (from a different seller, but they look identical, shape-wise) have really poor chrome plating. I mean, horrible. Still, for the price, I can use...

Re: Awesome sounding rudiments

A double stroke is two consecutive beats with one hand, whereas a single stroke is one beat. I meant that he was playing singles strokes (R - L - R - L - etc.) and then occasionally playing a double...

Re: Awesome sounding rudiments

First one is all single strokes with accents on every third note, and the second is singles interspersed with double strokes.

Re: what to do with unwanted cymblas?

Take them all to the highest building in your neighborhood, go to the top floor (or roof) and toss them out of the first open window you can find.

Re: I saw "Bohemian Rhapsody"

So true. While the movie isn't horrible, it's not worthy of all the acclaim and awards. I was a huge fan of Queen until they started going downhill (in my view) around "Jazz". I was confused while...

Re: Wanting to build a website for drummers - Any Ideas? Input?

Huh? Drummers don't need mobile apps or non-mobile apps. Drummers need GIGS!

Re: New Yamaha oaky goodness (Live Custom Hybrid Oak)

They stopped selling them because of their split from Sakae, same time they stopped making Recording Custom, Maple Custom Absolute, Birch Custom Absolute and Oak Custom.

They were made of Kapur,...

Re: Are the Sakae Almighty-series the same as Yamaha Recording Custom?

Hardware includes mounting hardware. The Sakae were mounted from the lower half of the drum, vs the Yamaha YESS stuff. The heavier lugs are a big factor too.

Regardless, blindfolded most people...

Re: Are the Sakae Almighty-series the same as Yamaha Recording Custom?

That will affect the sound, but not nearly as much as the edges and hardware.
