Re: New for Ludwig in 2019?

Agreed. I'm a huge fan of the Brooklyn series, and those drums absolutely sound different than any of the other Gretsch lines.

I also wanted to say, I loved the new Vintage Blue Oyster - which is...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

My wife was a reading specialist, with specific training for working with struggling readers. The district didn't have many people (maybe 2 or 3 at that time) who had her specific...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

I mean, I hear you and I understand what you are saying, but I do think I can draw a parallel with teaching.

My wife and I lived and worked (both teachers) in the DC area many years ago. We...

Re: The return of the Gretsch COB!

What era Gretsch COB is that? I have been eyeing a new Brooklyn series COB for a couple of months. I really dig the sound I am hearing on the videos I have seen. I can't find one locally to play, but...

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

I'm based in Asia, so I don't know very many, but I have heard good things about this place: http://www.rustydrums.co.uk/

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

If I added in all of the additional expenses I incur as a teacher, I would make a hell of a lot less than my (already low) salary. I donít think most jobs figure in the cost of transportation,...

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

Is buying something from England and having it shipped to you feasible? If so, there are several shops in England which carry vintage Ludwigs.

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

I'm not sure I am understanding what you are saying. While yes, the pay is subjective based on each individual situation, people entering the field should at least have some semblance of an...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

I wouldn't be surprised if the OP's numbers were accurate.

About 8 or 9 years ago, I was playing in a fairly good-sized band that had developed a large regional following. We also had some decent...

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

So, I think we need a little more information. You live in Europe, correct? Are you set on buying vintage drums? If so, how frequently do vintage kits come up for sale where you live? I live in Asia,...

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

No worries, I am guilty of reading too fast ---all the time. :)

I was thinking, the KB things might be a good way for him to go, if he is worried about sliding.

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

The C&Cs that would be in his price range have the same gull wing spurs as the vintage Ludwig Classic models- definitely will slide. I have owned bass drums with gull wings and will never willing do...

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

Ludwig makes a Ludwig Atlas bass drum spur mount which will take the place of a lug (this is on the traditional Ludwig Classic drums), so you can use that as a new bass drum spur. It is MUCH better...

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

You can't get a new Club Date in Europe for that price. The fact that he lives in Europe throws this discussion off a bit.

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

I know vintage American drums go for more money in Europe than in the U.S., so that has to figure into things a bit. The wrap pulling back on the floor tom is the thing that scares me the most. It...

Re: Between 3 kits....

I'd go with the Yamahas. Their drums are typically of a very high quality, they have great resale, and you can always add more drums later on.

Re: Geeking out a little!

Sadly that doesn't work on wood floors - I know this because I scratched the hell out of a stage a few years ago when I forgot I had the spikes still out. Ugh...

Re: Aquarian SuperPad hard to find? Good alternative?

So, the Super Pad sticks out to much for you, is that correct? I don't like that aspect either. I have heard the RTOM is significantly louder though than the Super Pad. It sounds like that wasn't...

Re: Back to the future!

I felt the same way about my USA Customs, but I feel completely different about the Gretsch Brooklyns. So damn good!

Re: Back to the future!

Love the look of those! I'm loving these more than the Pearls for some reason-the natural hoops might be why. :)
