Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

8" for a snare? That's tiny. I use 10" and consider it small. Are these mesh pads or rubber?

I always say that an e-kit is to an a-kit as a Stratocaster is to a Martin D-45. One ain't the other...

Re: Extra sharp chisel 1 - finger 0 :(

Several years back while doing some work on the house interior I managed to put the chisel to my left index finger. Didn't go to the bone but I still have the scar and thickened skin at the site.

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

Just as the sound of an acoustic instrument depends on the musician, the look of e-drums is dependent on the knowledge of the drummer. I'm afraid you're doomed, Larry. No amount of self delusion can...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

Only true if the PA is too small for the venue.

People who use at least some e-kit parts live include that Neil guy from Rush and Pat something-or-other from King Crimson.

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

I don't understand why everyone is complaining about that band playing "Comfortably Numb" and "Cocaine". After all, there's a big blue sign behind them that clearly says "MUSIC". What more...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

I recommend that you find out about the monitor arrangement. Without a good headphone/IEM mix, you're screwed.

On the plus side, just imagine- you can have myriad different kits at the twist of a...

Re: Afraid to sound bad?

My entire musical life has been spent trying to play things that I couldn't execute well. When you're a teenager and you really like Yes and ELP, guess what? Sonic carnage, that's what, but trying is...

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

I think that the male singer has already got there. Seriously, I suspect that this guy is an entertainer and knows precisely what he's doing. I cannot fathom that someone who sings like that honestly...

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

That was very weird. It's more weird than you can imagine for me because that's the sort of thing I do for humor, yet this appears to be serious. Not to hijack the thread, but here's an example of...

Re: Soundproof Practice Room in Garden

Sorry, but I have to disagree with some of this. For example, Green Glue is considered to be an extremely cost effective solution (two layers of sheet rock w/ GG is comparable to 4 layers of plain...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

You do realize that polygamous marriages existed centuries ago, right?

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

No, that's my whole point. Until we define terms, we can't talk about them sensibly.

For several decades "DJ" meant one thing. The "wedding DJ" is a modest of evolution of that. We start adding...

Re: Are our ears tuned to tradition?

It's funny, a buddy of mine had a very old Fender bass back in college (mid 70s). The headstock had that weird Telecaster look to it. Thing weighed a ton. I didn't like it but it worked for a lot of...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

It seems to me that there is a blurring of definitions going on here, partly I assume, due to age differences.

I do not consider someone who creates music using electronic tools to be a "DJ". A...

Re: Are our ears tuned to tradition?

It's definitely "better instruments". As a bass player, it seems the commentary regarding Fender Jazz/Precision is missing something major. There is this other company that was started by Leo Fender...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

And it gets better. Guitarists and bassists have electronic tuners that work with extreme accuracy, easily and in next to no time with zero training. It takes mere moments for me to tune my 5 string...

Re: What is your opinion of this Billy Cobham review?

I recall that Mahavishnu Orchestra was known for being very loud (back when Cobham played with them) so I'm not surprised at the volume level.

Like Zappa said, "rock music critic" is the most...

Re: Ain't no more fun...

I imagine there are some people who do but there are also 'net sites with "church sign generators". See my post above for another example of ridiculous output.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

In my opinion, there is no difference. I find both to be terminally boring.

And for all the shouts about "get off my lawn", being old and not "getting it", there is absolutely nothing wrong about...

But just think, he gets to charge half as much as a four piece band yet he personally makes twice as much as any member, and he can set up and tear down in a fraction of the time the band needs. And...

Here's the sign from the church across town:

Re: Ain't no more fun...

No big surprise there my friend. Billions of dollars intake each year and all tax free. Corporate and cut throat are as natural an outcome in this scenario as ducks having a fondness for water. And...
