Re: Do you vacialte? I do a lot...

I jump from Funk to reggae to rock almost on a weekly basis, depending on my mood. Still struggling with the nuances of Reggae, for a simple sounding style of music the drumming is a bugger to nail...

Re: drum tuners

I get where you are coming from, but how many guitarists tune up without a digital tuner? How many pianists even tune there own instrument? Using cheap readily available technology to make...

Re: drum tuners

I use a drum dial to get new heads in even tension. I have tried simply tapping round the edge of the head, as advised, and listening to the tuning at each lug, but having done that to the best of...

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Errrr..... you can call BS all you like, mate. Read Clem's interview in Rhythm Magazine from July 2014. Only stating what Mr Burke said when asked why the change from his beloved Premiers.

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Sad but true about DW being omnipotent. Clem Burke, a big fan and user of Premier drums for donkeys years, commented that he had changed to DW cos "if you want to hire a kit in the States It will be...

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Never heard of Guru Drums..... and call themselves a drummer?

Just goes to show how clever DW have been with there marketing, the drummer had probably never played one but bought into the hype.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I didn't read anything "Passive aggressive" In KIS's response. Perhaps you are over analysing posts on here, we are simple drumming folk. What you see is what you get. No agendas.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Thanks for taking time and explaining, I like people who are passionate about what they do.

I still cant tell the difference between woods used in drum manufacture though. If I did a blind test...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

Couldn't be easier. Bought e kit. Remove from box, first set up in about 15 mins. Pick a kit sound from the pre sets. Off I go. Quiet practice at almost any time. Would I swap for my acoustic...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

What I find strange is the rating of amplifiers now. Back in the day in our 2 guitars, bass and drums band, all the guitars had 100 watt valve amps, with a 100 watt PA for the vocals with 2 column...

Re: Drumming Addiction and Withdrawals

I know exactly what you mean Jim, but from a different perspective.

I was always being told to "Stop tapping" when I was very young. I was always tapping out a rhythm on the table or the arm of a...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I always respect your input into drums and the sound they make. As for acoustic guitars, a friend of mine covered a spanish guitar with Fablon and it didn't really change the sound at all.. It...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

Loudest band I ever herd? AC/DC at the Mayfair, Newcastle in the 70s. It was a medium sized underground venue. I was playing in a band at the time and loved loud music but that gig was just OTT. ...

Re: Tension

I feel your pain. My brother is a very keen golfer and he has a new coach who has re modeled his swing. His game has gone down the pan as he is thinking about every aspect of his swing with every...

Re: Tension

I get your point, but its horses for courses. Just cos someone "looks" tense playing, or uses lots of arm movement, does not automatically mean they are tense or just trying to please the audience.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I think what he means is there may be a lack of individuality from a lot of today's conveyor belt drum school clones.

Re: Tension

Most coaches would not even try. By and large most people run in a way that is natural and efficient to them. Take Paula Radcliffe as an example. Even trying to change radically someones natural...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

I use an E kit for 90% of my practice but I set the pad positions exactly the same as my acoustic kit, Muscle memory is very important or why do people mark drum rugs so the kit is always in the same...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

Dont agree with all the practice pad and lessons talk. Lots of people play simply for there own enjoyment and an e kit is ideal as its fairly quiet, at least compared to an acoustic kit.
Also you ...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

With you Jim. I have a cheap e kit and it is a godsend for quiet practice. If I had a completely soundproof room, not possible without huge expense, even then difficult, I would play my acoustic...

Re: How were drums taught back in the day?

+1

The wide eyed innocence and joy of listening to a new band or song and working out what the drummer was doing can not be replaced by simply searching the internet for a video of the drum part. ...

Re: How were drums taught back in the day?

Back in my day, 60s 70s I hung with lots of other bands and musicians and not one of them, except keyboard players, ever had a lesson. The trend seemed to be that you learned by listening to records...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Errr...No. You obviously missed my point, I was agreeing with you. Music is subjective. That is why I kept stating that I don't need to justify my musical likes and dislikes. The original thread...
