Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

While I agree with all your other points, I understand how women can like average musicians who are attractive. I see nothing wrong with sex appeal when it comes to musicians, and it will make me...

Re: Check this out. What is it ?

Not a bongo, if anything, it could be a concert tom, but concert toms weren't really a thing in that era. Maybe it was cut down?

Re: DW Collector Drums?

That's pretty limiting. You'll have the choice of DW, Gretsch, and Ludwig. Yes, I can understand not wanting to buy from third world countries, but there's plenty of good brands from other first...

Re: Great car for a drummer

1990 Toyota Corolla for the win!

Although my hard 22x16 bass case won't fit through the door, so if I'm taking those drums I need to borrow my dad's truck, which is a little 1992 Toyota Pickup.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Haha this is pretty laughable, I'm sorry.

I'm skinny as hell, have virtually no muscle, pretty sure most women have more oomph to them then me. By your logic, I shouldn't play?

Also by that...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Emanuelle is one of my favorite drummers on youtube. She's so good, is French-Canadian, and yeah, I may crush on her a bit.

Re: How do you play Jazz tom toms

The only tom beat I can think of would be Sing Sing Sing.

Just play fast swung 8th notes on the floor tom, accenting for flavor. Not much to it.

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Page hasn't done much since the 80s. JPJ has by far the most prolific career of them, especially in the last 20 years (not just Them Crooked Vultures, but other classical projects). Plant has been...

Re: So why two 16s?

He did use it, not often but it did happen. I distinctly remember him using it in the Animal drum-off.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Regardless of her gender and the apparent attractiveness of her body (quick aside, she is good looking), what really sells her is the smile. This is a universal thing. I always ALWAYS get comments...

Re: MARCHING PERCUSSION

Got my first girlfriend through HS marching band.

While it was cool, Corps wasn't enticing to me because of the sheer cost and I was always a frugal type (never got student loans through college,...

Re: Recording from soundboard?

Check out Zoom products. My h4n has two inputs that can double as seperate mics or as line (so you can go from soundboard), plus has two onboard mics so you can capture the room sound.

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

He has a point. I do think Jason did a fine job, but I also think Carmine would do a fine job, and he's from (roughly) the same era.

Re: Toms ringing

You don't need orings. Just proper head choice. Hell, people give away used heads for practically free. Just having a bottom head, even if slightly used, is still going to be better.

Re: Toms ringing

Get a bottom head on those toms. Then you can tune the top head lower so it does 'ping' as much.

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I have a fair amount of videos on youtube, but its mostly of me learning a new groove or trying out new stuff. Not any covers or anything like that. Mostly to show my friends who don't get a chance...

Re: Always out of breath, need to get my stamina up somehow.

What helped my breathing more than anything else was taking a yoga class in college. Since then, I've never had issues of holding my breath, or breathing hard and fast, or running out of air. I'm...

Re: Craigslist ads crack me up....

Well, if you're in Idaho, I can see how drum lessons would be cheap. Even Boise would be cheaper than Portland. Good solid lessons start at $40-50 for an hour here, and go up from there.

I don't...

Re: Craigslist ads crack me up....

Check this out from my craigslist today:

Not sure how rates are in your towns, but here in Portland, you'll be lucky if you can find a teacher who will teach half hour lessons for that rate,...

Re: Craigslist ads crack me up....

Or ads that look for drummers with "groove/feel" rather than drummers that can play with a lot of notes.

Obviously those two traits are mutually exclusive.

Or, as I'm led to believe,...

Re: How to progress on Tommy Igoe's Lifetime Warmup?

Another thing to try is different stick sizes. I usually pad with Vic Firth MS2's. Fat marching sticks, really heavy. Just for kicks and giggles the other night I switched to my regular 5a's,...
