Re: Band EP Launch/Follow up on Lazy guitarists thread

Hahah wow that sounds like the riskiest setup ever! Of course the generator had to go. Well done on your improvisation to get the band through it, also just makes you admire the fact that drums are...

Band EP Launch/Follow up on Lazy guitarists thread

My band had their EP launch last night. Despite several problems: minimal PA, broken guitar string during second song, bass rig shut down because of shitty stage power, we managed to push on with...

Re: Playing in a Bar - Length of Sets/Breaks/Hours

Haha love the second bit of this sentence. We are pretty lucky in that the places we play are not very strict at all with set times/breaks, however we normally play no longer than 50 minutes, and...

Re: Stage Etiquette

LOL these things are common in my band too. Practicing the lead lick/rhythm part of a song before we play it always annoys me too specifically with cover songs, then you have given away the impact of...

Re: Hows this for a good ear? Or something

Wow that is ridiculously impressive, how is that even possible? Some people just have brains wired that way I guess, must have had perfect pitch. I have a great ear for relative tuning but my...

Re: Lazy Guitarists...

Wow great insight haha I wasn't expecting an answer! Better info than what I could get on a guitar forum haha, Drummerworld has everything you need. Might have to check out a new nut, though I always...

Re: Lazy Guitarists...

Good to hear all the responses guys, happy to see pretty much all of you agree with where I stand.

I definitely like this rule, just have to find a way to implement it. Since I joined the band...

Re: Lazy Guitarists...

Hahaha more like one every song! From what I gather lead guitarists know very little about groove. People love dancing to a solid grooving band, with vocals over the top. As soon as you chuck in any...

Lazy Guitarists...

Well, I do love playing in my band, but there are a couple of things I just can't stand.

Both the guitarists in the band refuse to buy a proper tuner pedal. We gig relatively often, often enough...

Re: Interesting minimalist style...

Its definitely cool stuff, interesting drum texture and sounds. But I can definitely see your wife's perspective. It is fairly busy and drum based music, and I am not sure how well the fast dry drums...

Re: Keeping stands/drums in the same position

Markers on the stands is a great idea, as others have mentioned. I believe over time, the more you setup your kit the more you become accustomed to the way it should be when you have finished putting...

Re: Help Choose My Focus - Drums or Bass

I would agree with your guitarist, and keep playing both! I do and both are great.

As you mentioned, you are playing music purely for the joy of it, and in my opinion you will get the most joy...

Re: hi hat jingles/ Jewellery - Hiatus Kaiyote

LOL was listening to their new album today and just thought I might start a thread about how awesome their drummer grooves, only to find out you just made one! It is just ridiculous how good his feel...

Re: Who Here Loves Rock

Sounds like an ideal audience! I wish our original gigs had a higher female attendance, ah well got a college party coming up playing covers, those are always fun.

I like lots of styles but I love...

Re: How to you construct your parts?

As others have said, the feel of the song is a big thing for me and determines what my drum part will be. The first time we jam an idea I will often feel exactly what I want to play instantly. Every...

Re: Drum shops in NYC or San Fran

Interesting to hear peoples opinions. Anything in particular that makes a place like guitar centre so average? I guess based on their online presence I have assumed them to be one of the biggest...

Re: Drum shops in NYC or San Fran

Thanks for the tips guys.

Interesting to hear that a city as large as San Francisco could be without a drum shop. Obviously not enough drummers living there!

Drum shops in NYC or San Fran

Going on a trip to New York and San Francisco in a couple of days. Just wondering if there are any great drum shops in these cities that you guys would personally recommend to check out? Wouldn't...

Re: Wrist pain

Rest is good, and as mentioned before a compression brace speeds up recovery in most cases. I also put anti-inflammatory cream on which often helps.

Whenever I have injured my wrist it has never...

Re: Big maple fun :)

Definitely much more toneful and resonant than phonics. I wouldnt worry about the disparity in recording method because although vastly different, the drums character will still shine through.

Re: Big maple fun :)

When I listen to the zebrano tour vid you did, the toms really remind me of the toms sound on tool's aenima. I have never heard any drums come so close to that sound and it is one of my favourite...

Re: Drum mic recommendations

You can use one tom mic between two toms if you wish, but you may get more bleed while trying to capture both toms, and you will get less body and low end capture aiming the mic at the edges of the...

Re: Gigs.....

Gotta love it when free beer is on offer! I do love gigging out although tearing down is the worst especially when the party is still raging on. We often joke in our band that if we could just rock...

Re: Drum mic recommendations

Just remember, not everything will sound great in your situation. I tried a d6 on my kick recently and really disliked it, however it can be a great mic in the right circumstances. It all depends on...

Re: Visit to Wac'd Drums

So much Drum!

Looks awesome, I always wanted a set of his lugs to fit to one of my own drums but I guess he has gone more in the direction of manufacturing his own kits altogether.
