Re: New Guru!

Lots of great players who have mastered the brushes-I really like Jeff Hamilton. And this Wim De Vries playing upbeat tempos at the end of this video is awesome- ...

Re: Brush technique

Re: Too Old To Play???

Go for it-never too young never too old. I fell in love with drumming at 10 then again at 40 and now I'm 60 and really feel like I'm just getting started and nothing would stop me from playing-almost...

Re: Poo sounding 12" Rack?

I have a 12 in Vision basswood/birch tom that is just dead to the wind-no sing, no ring and with any head (believe me I've tried) tuned hi or low. The 10 in tom is OK as the 16 in floor tom. I've...

Re: Drinking and Drumming

Well there is only one way to end the debate and settle this gall darn issue and that is have a beer fest (yes like President Obama) or do shots. So we drink then we play, drink play, drink play,...

Re: My physical issues and my drumming

Yes I thought it was bullcrap too John an old live-in girlfriend talked me into when I was working on my Master's. I've always thought much of Chiropractic is pseudoscience when they tell you they...

Re: My physical issues and my drumming

I remember years ago I was into Rolfing. Did that for a bit, but $50 bucks a pop I felt like I was robbed after a while LOL. Anyone try Rolfing?

Re: My physical issues and my drumming

Well when you're paddling a slow boat the jet ski sure does look enticing as it passes you by so I guess that tendency for "speed" is a natural one. I think it's nice to have but often over used (and...

Re: Fast old fart - brings back memories :)

Next time I'm in the UK I'm coming to your shop to meet you in person Andy (it would be my honor) and then too to try out your demo room-hell yeah seems apropos because Art should be playing drum art...

Re: Drumming and tennis

Ah yes "Cricket"-make great bait. I like to listen to them chirp (stridulate) too. LOL I like cricket much less confusing than "football" which apparently refers to two completely different sports...

Re: Fast old fart - brings back memories :)

"Let's be honest here, it's hardly a good drum performance, & there's no way I'd have that out there as a finished piece, but for the job I was asked to do, & considering the time constraint, I'm...

Re: Fast old fart - brings back memories :)

Andy you should change your moniker to "Keep it tasteful" because that really fits. I'm thinking of changing mine to "White noise".

Re: Fast old fart - brings back memories :)

Dang Andy awesome first take-and I've noted that often my first take will sound best and the more I muck with it I mess it up. And this tale explains a lot. The ole days of Bread and Butter drumming...

Re: Drumming and tennis

That's funny John I was writing my posit while you posted yours. i agree with man's natural abilities and how consciously thinking about it screws it up. Like practicing rudiments if you think about...

Re: Drumming and tennis

I'd bet being muscle bound could hurt your drumming. I swim a quarter or half mile a day to keep in shape since my knees took a hit and I can't run anymore. Drumming isn't an olympic sport so being...

Re: Drinking and Drumming

I still say drinking and drumming don't mix. And this is not being a wimp or hypocritical because I can't think of a mind altering substance that I haven't abused while behind a drum kit-but that's...

Re: Drinking and Drumming

Gosh when I drink I sound stellar, till I listen to the recording of my playing and realize I was gone-zo. You shouldn't drink in drive or drink and drum. But when I do drink-I drink Dos Equis-so...

Re: How tense are you when you play?

I guess I'm pathetically insecure as I always tense up before I play in public. I have to find my 'happy place' to relax and play-though if I play a venue repeatedly it's not as bad. I seem to play...

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

Well it's a movie how much drama is there really in drumming? So they go for the "blood", hopefully "sex"-I haven't seen it, and regular formula=of course it doesn't reflect reality=the instructor...
