Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Re: Jazz Drummer v Metal Drummer

It really started with ...And Justice For All. Not the sample replacement, but the tone. That super clicky bass drum was pretty much invented for that album, and its seen heavy use since. The mid...

Re: Jazz Drummer v Metal Drummer

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Because playing Dave Matthews, Zeppelin, and James Brown requires talent.

Re: Keeping Things Light

Kinda on subject, but I had a gig the other night. My setup takes 3 trips to transport by hand (play a Sonor Bop for reference, everything in cases). One of the trips back to my apartment, I was...

Re: The thing you bought but you never use

I bought a gong, not expecting to actually use it at all but just because I wanted a freaking gong to be behind me while I practice.

Funnily enough, I have used it on recordings I made in my home...

Re: Avery Molek - Awesome 11-year-old drummer from PA??

Don't care. When he's a legend making great music, then I'll care.

Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

They should be angled proportional to your torso height (and the drum height). Your stick should come as close to parallel to the drum without constantly hitting rims.

There is no need to have...

Re: 300 BPM? Really guys?

*NEW* fad? Have you not been a drummer for the past 70 years? Playing fast has *always* been a fad.

Re: Last time you referred to drumming as "playing the skins"?

I say it in jest once in awhile, but aside from seeing it in movies and such, never in real life.

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

Think that's a very fair analysis of early 60s drumming....hell even for a lot of eras its pretty accurate.

Re: deleted social media

Its pretty easy not to make Facebook money. Just don't click on ads or sponsored posts. Get a plugin like Social Fixer that removes all that crap.

Re: How many records have you made?

4. My own solo rock opera project (which was terrible) in 2009, one of my band's first albums in 2010, second album in 2013, and another band's only album in 2014.

Re: Your plans for 2018 with drums?

Gig at least once per month is my New Year's resolution.

I missed out on January (too soon too book a gig anyway) but I am playing an 8 night musical in February that will make up for it. I'm...

Re: Do people buy DW kits just for the badge

I'm not big on DW, but recognize they are good quality sets. I hate their lugs though.

With that being said, I do think you can get similar quality for cheaper from the other big manufacturers,...

Re: Shifting gears - adding a THIRD band (and a personal challenge)

I'm in four bands right now.....jazz/funk/lounge, pop rock, garage hard rock, and a Lady Gaga tribute band. PLUS I just got hired for my first musical, haven't had a gig where I read charts since...

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

Has no one listened to the recordings featuring him? They're on the Anthology 1 album.

Listen to the version of Love me Do with him on it. Very easy to tell that Ringo is just flat out superior...

Re: Ultimate learning book?

Pretty much the two books that are must for beginners are Stick Control and Syncopation. However it helps to have context for what you're learning, which these books don't provide on their own.

Re: !!! H U G E G I V E A W A Y !!!

I'm glad you were our guinea pig for this!

The way that Beautiful People was engraved does bug me quite a bit. It would have been much easier to read if you wrote the broken triplets as swung 8th...
