Re: "Projection" of drums

I don't really think its language. A logarithm of a measurement, or of its ratio to anything, is still a measurement. Otherwise (sadly) we could not have awarded the Who in 1976 as the loudest rock...

Re: Is the drummer population aging?

Different world. Most youngsters stay indoors for many of their preferred activities. More getting together to hang in a basement for some video games rather than blow some smoke (literally and...

Re: "Projection" of drums

I think of Projection as ultimately a measure of loudness, i.e. decibels. Think of two materials, but same head/tension, struck the same force.
The tom made out of solid birch, all other factors...

Re: Best shuffles?

Give Burton Cummings' ' My Own Way to Rock" a try.
A burning fast shuffle with Jeff Porcaro on drums.

Re: Classic kits that sound... horrible.

40+ year old heads!?...on the upside, a true testament to the pure strength and longevity of Mylar. Kudos to the material scientist who invented it. Mind you, perhaps calfskin can last long.

Re: What bass drum is this?

That last pic shows 3 re-rings. Typically older vintage drums have only 2 re-rings, one for each edge of the drum, not one in the middle.
3 re-rings is typical of 1960's Made in Japan (MIJ) copies...

Re: Ed. Thigpen.

Super clean, very nice. I love how they are all huddled together.
Stupid question - do all/most jazz guys use a 7A, or sticks thinner than 5A?

Re: What bass drum is this?

The upper T-rod is the only vintage Gretsch thing I see.
I can't tell of any interior silver paint from that pic but look for a paper badge in there.
Looks like a lot of replacements. Nice wrap and...

Re: Please help - is this bearing edge normal? (Picture attached)

^+1

That's quite a gap. I can't imagine any counter or glass is that warped over such a small distance, so it must be the drum.

Re: Anyone ever play in full drum enclosure?

Thanks. I went to church (with pews, altar etc.) the 1st half of my life and the term was never used. The pic shown did look like a studio.

Re: Anyone ever play in full drum enclosure?

I'm missing something. Is a 'sanctuary' a new name for a church or place of worship?
It does look like a snake aquarium.

Re: When the band you're auditioning for,..

On the upside, why would you want to play for a band that you thought sucked anyway? Now you don't have to decline an offer in a band that sucks.
Its all reached equilibrium.

Re: Kenny Aronoff with John Fogerty

Sounds like a great day, from a dip in the river to a Fogerty show!
If you read Kenny Aronoff's book you'll see he is on planes pretty much almost daily, sometimes twice daily, getting to/from gigs,...

Re: Well this is humbling: Hit Like A Girl, Bonham edition

Or ask Buddy Rich at age 8 in Vaudeville instead. He turned out OK I think.
How does one know who she will be seen as the rest of her life?
I see what she did as surely exceptional, a total...

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

Yes. Last band I was in, and all went well. We only disbanded because the female singer had a baby. They gave me a songlist, told me where to show up, audition, got a call next day, no flaking....

Pork Pie Little Squealer 10 lug steel 6.5 x 14.
Was not looking for a snare but got one with some other drum stuff from a local sale. Quite sensitive and punches way above its price point (about...

Re: Coltrane & Elvin Fans: Lost 1963 Album Discovered

Ya I thought the same, and all the heads are worn, dirty and his hi hats look to be different sizes, by choice I'm sure. Its never about 'gear'

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Interesting thread, but you seem to have taken a rather haughty stance here. You wanna play for peanuts with some blues guys, thats great, your choice, and you deem it a pure one. But a group of...

Re: What are my drums worth and best way to sell

Check Reverb, or eBay, though the latter will be inflated. Could also look around on craigslist, but that may vary by region.
Even though not in your exact sizes, some ad for Maple Customs should...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

For sure. Its possible s session drummer, had never heard the song before, did 5 to 10 takes, and we're now hearing that as the 'signature parts'.
On other hand, drummer who is a regular band...
