Re: 9X13 floor tom? Sensible?

Yeah, this drum would cost too much, not offer much in terms of playing (except for some U2) and probably be awkward. I'm not short (6'2") but I set up pretty low. This 9" depth could be just a bit...

9X13 floor tom? Sensible?

I've been hunting for a 14X14 for my Keystone kit to no avail. The finish is discontinued. I could buy a brand new one for $400 and re-wrap it but for that cost, I'm not really in love with it.

Re: Cajon pedal

I recently got into cajon for acoustic gigs with my band and I picked up a Gibraltar pedal for $75 from Guitar Center.

It works great for what it is. The bracket doesn't want to stay on,...

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

That was a 2 up and 2 down kit. Ideal. I added the 14X14 and 9X13 later (which was cut down) to the original 20X22, 8X12, and 16X16.

Never missed the 10 with that set up. Sucks about the deal but...

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

Great drums. You'll be happy.

20X22 is a cool size. I never had an issue with playing it. Here's my final version of that kit before I sold it.

Re: Those of you who have "sound proofed" a room for your drums...

I had a basement room built when building my former house. Offset 2X6 studs room-within-a-room style. The key was limp mass vinyl. I used 3 giant rolls of the stuff to weave between the stud. Filled...

Re: When people ask you to 'play something', what do you play?

Usually some kind of funk beat. Think a funkified version of Walk this Way. And some linear fills with it. Twenty seconds is enough.

Re: What's the best things about your playing?

Number one for a very long time: my funky right foot
Number two: tasty embellishments
Number three: solid meter/groove.
Number four: my good nature and reliability

Do I need to list my...

Re: height versus snare height

I sit about average but my kit is pretty low. Snare is 25" and I'm 6'2". I like my legs at a perfect 90.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

We do but this isn't the place for it. Start a new thread.

Just got a new pair of Westone UM3 PRO IEM's to replace my 10 year old UM2's. Smokin hot deal so I can't wait to hear what I've been...

Re: Who was your first drum clinician?

I saw him around that time too. Maybe earlier on the Ultimate Sin tour. Played a school auditorium for a local drum shop. Got my Starfire head signed by him. I remember being super scared to ask for...

Re: Who was your first drum clinician?

Ed Shaughnessy-1985 or so at a small music store. Don't remember much because I was still too green to understand what he was talking about.

Re: Heuer Drums

That no doubt is a huge effect. But that wasn't my feeling going into the purchase. It evolved. But it didn't last because I went Gretsch after that. Then Ayotte. Back in 99, there was a lacquered...

Re: Heuer Drums

I'll tell you where my some of that comfort came from/into play. After playing my wonderful short stack for a few years, I began to notice a lot of top-tier acts having that obvious DW logo on stage....

Re: Heuer Drums

Oh, I agree with that. But I don't directly see Dave Weckl playing HHX Evo's and correlate his playing to mine and thinking I can channel him through those cymbals. I will give them a chance in the...

Re: how much was this kit?

It could help to know what you are trying to achieve. Selling? Buying?

Used rule of thumb for selling is half of retail (msrp) and another half of that. $1000 kit you could expect to sell for...

Re: Musicians who don't listen to music.

Funny. I find after a gig Coast to Coast AM will keep you awake with all the UFO talk and crackpots. I don't listen to music on the way home either. Enjoy the silence and the whistle of wind through...

Re: Humidity: What setting?

The rule of thumb I've always followed for instruments is if it's comfortable to you, it is for them. 40-50% humidity and 60-75 degrees.

Today I'm cleaning my two humidifiers for storage. House is...

Re: Heuer Drums

I don't think I've ever bought a piece of gear because an artist endorsed it. I look for what I want to hear. Sabians and Ludwig Keystones are getting the job done for me. I like DW hardware and...

Re: Musicians who don't listen to music.

It's good to know I'm not alone in not listening to music 24/7. I still like it and just today I was playing the Dazz Band's Greatest Hits.

I just like my 20 minute commute to be talk/news/sports...

Re: Nice...or not so much

Around 2000, working at a music store, we had Mike Mangini in for a clinic. Such a super cool guy. Went out to a Hooters afterwards and watched him destroy a pile of clams. He was such a beast back...
