Re: ac/dc sin city

It’s a standard rock thing where you hit every third 8th or 16th note and make up the difference at the end of the bar
In rock music this will be a one or two bar phrase because the rhyming tension...

Re: State your unpopular drumming opinions

Ok here’s my secret unpopular opinion:

As my ear has improved over the years, I find that most drummers are unlistenable. Bad time, bad sense of their role within the band, no sense of confidence...

Re: State your unpopular drumming opinions

Yeah, the "kick drum" thing used to bug me more but, as I'm sure you already know, the phrase came from engineers who didn't want to confuse it with the bass guitar when they wrote on their little...

Re: Affordable In-ears?

I just got a set of KZ’s and for 29 bucks they blow my sensaphonics out of the water.

I can’t see how they do it at this price point.

Re: Thought Experiment

I think that pursuing left foot hi hat technique would benefit a single kick player more than practicing double kick.

Re: I have finally figured out tuning!

I tried the 4th interval on my DW kit on a recent theater tour opening for Yngwie Malmsteen and the drums sounded awesome!

Several engineers actually complimented me on it. OK, two did ;) but it...

Re: Meet Herbert

That machine could go on for decades, that's how robustly built they were back then.

Thank you Herbert for my awesome drums, I hope you find a good home.

Bill Bachman

Seriously, have any of you ever seen anything like this?

My man Bill leaves jaws dropped.

Oh yeah, the whole thing is in 7.

Re: I'm on the home straight

I can see my 13” tom there!

Bittersweet, can’t wait to get that drum but sad that there won’t be an 18” floor coming to join him.

And that few others will ever get to experience this great drum...

Re: Seriously, how many notes do you think you play in 3 hours of music?

I play a heck of a lot more notes per minute when I play with a metal band than with a rock/pop/funky band.

The physical effort with some of the more extreme stuff is on another level when...

Re: Should I say something? If so, how?

I've done this many times and usually gotten nowhere. Don't bother unless it's someone you really care about or an actual serious student of the instrument.

Re: Hello

Hi Duncan,

I think you're the only active member who's been on this forum longer than I have. I'm not nearly as active as I used to be so it's good to see an OG again.

Re: Radically new drum tuning tech

People crack me up.

I specifically stated that the idea wasnt new but that the engineering in this instance appears to be well above the previous incarnations.

Yet still people reply with...

Radically new drum tuning tech

I can’t believe no one has mentioned this already.

The concept of tuning a drum with only one knob has been around forever.

These guys have done it better than anyone else by far.

I’d love...

Re: Cymbal cancer warnings

I own a business in aerospace metals.

The cymbal must contain a certain amount of heavy metals, such as chromium, nickel, or cadmium.

Depending on the region and the attorneys they might either...

Re: non-specific criticism

I second that. I once had a singer tell me “I want the kick to go Boosshh” in a rehearsal room. As if I had a full a triggered midi setup with me at his rehearsal.

Also, consider the source when...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

I did a session last year and the engineer was pretty well known for his drum sounds

After he spent a while talking abut how he did it, I asked “What about cymbals”
His reply: “ They pretty much...

Re: Denting drumheads

Only a neanderthal with no sense of chops dents a head.

It takes zero rebound and a sharp angle of attack to do it.

Re: Is practicing heel-down worth it?

If you’re asking about fast double bass then the majority of your practice should be heel up.

Yeah, I know it’s not politically correct to say it but ask yourself how many modern fast double bass...

Re: Double bass setup?

I honestly don’t think any double bass player has bothered with any of this.

The vast majority of players use identical drums. A very small percentage use different diameters. Those players tend...

Re: time keeping/ guitarists

It’s shouldn’t be so complex.

If they don’t like you counting in a song and you’ve already recorded them going way off tempo then they just aren’t any good as players. Sorry but that’s the truth....

Re: Rick Beato -- Is the man!

Yeah, wiseass. Do you honestly think that Adele's performance on that song was anything less than stellar? Have you actually listened to the song and read the lyrics?

It's not Ace of Base I tell...

Re: Dave DiCenso Live Performance at DCP - Video

Dave is everything I look for in a masterful player. The guy has played the gamut of gigs, from Cro-Mags to Hiromi in addition to being an incredible teacher.

Bill Bachman used to say that Dave...

Re: Rick Beato -- Is the man!

Those songs and artists you mentioned are all great.

Especially Adele, “Someone like you” is one of the most passionate vocal performances ever recorded.

Great doesn’t just mean songs you liked...

Re: Do 3/4 and 6/8 ‘flow’ better for you?

I’ve always felt that the reason for any time sig to feel worse or better was within me and not in the meter.
