Re: New drum kit

Same number of pieces and same sizes?

One thing to consider, with the Oak Customs, you are getting one of Yamaha's top of the line kits. The Renown Maples are good kits, but they aren't even...

Re: best sounding kits

I wouldn't necessarily conclude that just because a kit is the most expensive, that it will automatically sound that much better. Having said that, I LOVE the way craviotto's look, never played one...

Re: Need help with new drumkit

I think you could get a better price than that if you shopped around. I got my Yamaha Birch Custom Absolutes 22-10-12-14-16 and 14 inch snare for 2400

Re: Ludwig Acrolite

I'm sure there's a ton of guys on here that have one. I have one from 1979 that I got on ebay for $62 plus a few dollars for shipping. I use Ambasadors (what I use for pretty much every snare). It...

Re: Yamaha BCAN input please

I have a Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute with the Nouveau lugs. I have 6 pieces, 22 inch kick, 10, 12, 14, 16 inch toms and matching snare, all in blue sparkle. Great looking and sounding kit. I got...

Re: Nouveau Lugs vs Standard Yamaha Lugs on Maple Custom Absolute

Changing heads takes about the same time really. To my ear, they make the drum resonate more because there isn't as much on the shell of the drum, of course the mounting system kills some resonance,...

Re: what would be a good kit for giging with?

Kits in your price range, depending on the number of pieces you play are Yamaha Oak Customs, Gretsch Renown, Tama Starclassics. If you shop used you could find some great stuff with $1500

I'm a big fan of the Tama Starclassic, but you just can't beat a good Yamaha kit

Re: Help me pick out a Black Beauty

cool thanks. I think the guy I am buying it from is throwing in some new snare wires too, not sure what he is giving me though. I will probably start out with an Ambasador on top

Re: Help me pick out a Black Beauty

I was advised not to go the hammered shell route, as that it dries out the drum too much. Although I'm sure it sounds great if that's the sound you're going for.

I'm shopping for a Black Beauty and need a little advice. I know I want a 6.5" and I like the tube lugs and triple-flanged hoops with chrome hardware. What is the main difference between the...

Re: Tuning problems... Tightening too hard?

If you keep messing with it and just can't get it right then take a break for a while. Sometimes you start listening for the wrong things after you work and work for a certain sound.

Re: Snare drum sound

What you hear in recordings is EQ'd, compressed, and a lot of time blended with samples to that kind of sound, so shooting for that may be kind of unrealistic
