Re: Advice on what songs to play/learn

The Trooper is a good one.

Some other ones I always liked: Everybody wants some (Van Halen), War pigs (fun to mess with your own little fills in there), Would (Alice in Chains) or Outshined...

Re: Drummers and Performance Anxiety - Final Research

Done. I usually suffer from it from about a half hour before going on til about 30 seconds into the first song. I start thinking about all the bad things that could happen, so I'll try to keep myself...

Re: What drum/cymbal/piece of gear have you owned the longest?

My 1970 Supraphonic is pretty much the only snare I've ever used. My Dad handed his Ludwigs down to me in the early 80's, I bought a Gretsch around '90, then my current Tama set in the mid-90's, but...

Re: Play exact?

I would agree with that. When I was in cover bands in the 90's, the older songs that everybody's heard a million times (Paranoid, War Pigs,Sin City, any Kiss) we would jazz up, but the newer songs at...

Re: Drum price question

I did a google search of the drums and cymbals, so I was on multiple forums. "Hatred" may have been a bit harsh of a word, but it did seem like a lot of people didn't care for them. I don't know much...

Re: Drum price question

Yikes! Thanks for the info. Didn't realize that was their lower level set. I feel bad now.

Drum price question

I have a friend wanting to sell her kit. It's her sons who has hardly played it, so it's practically new. It's a Pearl EXR Export 5 piece fusion kit with Zildjian ZXT Titanium cymbals (14" Hats, 16"...

Ever had something like this happen?

I just gotta post this. Just got back from setting up and soundchecking for a show we're doing tomorrow. We're the only band playing and there's a DJ going on before us and after us. When we got...

Re: No respect. No respect at all. (tie pull)

That's what I thought.

I would like to have my set in the studio, but the singer likes his kit. This whole thing started as just the singer & guitarist putting a little studio together in...

Re: No respect. No respect at all. (tie pull)

It's no knock on my guys. They're all good friends. I guess I didn't realize how little they know about what I do. I tried to compare it to them going to a show and having to play a guitar where the...

No respect. No respect at all. (tie pull)

Maybe I've become too aware of it because of reading other posts on here about other bandmates lack of drums knowledge, but I figured I'd share my "drums are drums" story. With a show coming up this...

Re: Should I change?

That's a good idea so you can at least know if you'd want a bigger set before buying a new one.
I've played 5 pieces since I started playing. When I bought my current kit, it's a 6 piece (10" tom),...

Re: Are you as hot as you used to be? ;)

I'm a mailman here in Ohio and been out walking in this 90+ heat all day then going to practice in a cramped little basement with no windows. After a couple songs, it's a heatbox down there! We're...

Re: Parents won't let me buy a drum set

It will get old after the first 50 times. It's amazing that the older they get, the smarter we get!!

Re: STP Sex Type Thing drum chart

That used to be our opener back in the day. Any specific questions about it, or just looking for general reasons? It's pretty straightforward.

Re: Following Larryace's lead

I didn't notice anything different with the snare. I'm still kinda bummed I haven't got to hear what it sounds like from the other side yet. I was gonna have a buddy play after soundcheck so I could...

Re: Following Larryace's lead

Well, we had a guy shooting video, and the audio came out horrible! So it was kinda hard to get a feel for it. But one song in particular worried me cuz it's like a jungle beat on the toms and would...

Re: Following Larryace's lead

I had the batters tuned up higher and the reso's way higher. Had a mic for snare and bass, then just one overhead to pick up toms (3 mounted, 1 floor). My ears in the crowd said it sounded great.

Following Larryace's lead

After reading your tuning thread, I gave it a shot. Had my first gig since around '97 last night and had my toms tuned much higher than I normally have them. A couple drummer friends in the crowd...

Re: Drummer Boo boos :)

I did that once. I tucked it into my sock first chance I got. Of course, I forgot about it and was walking around the bar between sets looking like a doofus.

Re: How rare is it to find a band that has a practice space with a kit for you to use? Advice needed

Me personally, I'd rather play with guys I mesh with and struggle with a practice space. There may be more stuff you don't want to be associated with down the road. I'd wonder about their...

Body Thief Rocks on Reverbnation

While I was checking out the message board, our band popped up on a reverbnation add on the site. Al Gore was still inventing the internet last time I played in a band, so I get a kick out of stuff...

Re: Songs that are recognizable just by the beat

Take the money and run's a good one. You can play that intro anywhere and somebody's gonna give you a "hoo hoo"!

I love it loud-Kiss. Though it's basic, I don't think many songs used that beat....
