Re: Buying options, need help!

Check out Craigslist.
You can often get a decent deal with shells and cymbals that might fit your price range, though your choices will be a little more limited.

Re: Building a cool Drum Riser

I haven't built a riser yet (thinking about it soon, though), but if you drill holes in the bottom of the buckets, suction won't be an issue when removing the lids.

Re: Snare drum exposed to high temperature - PLEASE HELP!

You're probably okay. Sitting in sunlight like that for an extended period of time, I'd be worried, particularly about the finish, but for a few hours, you're probably okay. If you inspected the...

Re: Defoe Drum Co

Got the shell today.
It's in new condition, not a scratch on it. I was going to take the wrap off and refinish it with stain and clear coat or a veneer if the top ply didn't look good, but the wrap...

Re: SJC Drums

Looking at the Barrel Drum snare now - what about it makes it not really tunable?

Re: Defoe Drum Co

From what I've found, he's the founder of the company. He's also the guy I bought the snare from.

Defoe Drum Co

Anyone know anything about Defoe Drum Co.? Looks like it was a small custom drum company out of Maryland at one time, but doesn't seem to exist anymore, as far as I can tell.

I purchased a snare...

Re: mapex meridian arrived!

Congrats! It's a nice looking kit. I love the lugs on the Meridians.

Re: Apollo kit

Got some legs for the bass, cleaned up the snare pretty nicely (was bent badly and out of round, but a nice thing about steel drums is that this is easily fixable), and go the thing set up and...

Re: Tom angles!!!!

Anytime I see "Sunlite," or "Enforcer," or "Excel" on Craigslist, I know I won't be disappointed.

Re: Apollo kit

The wrap is cool - it's a textured wrap, with ridges like those little pictures that used to come in Cracker Jacks boxes, where you would tilt it, and the picture would change. When you move around...

Apollo kit

I found this kit on Craigslist this morning. It's a mid-60's MIJ Apollo kit. I initially wanted a cheap set that I could pull the wrap off of, and do a natural wood look, but I really dig the wrap...

Re: Possibly looking for.....

I don't think the red looks bad with the maple at all. I kind of dig it.

Besides, non-drummers are going to spend to much time wondering why your lefty kit looks so strange to them to notice.

Re: DWPS ordered!

Got the replacement today. It's perfect, no problems at all, and sounds great. I had to pull off the reso head and adjust the pillow and tighten it up a bit more than factory to get a better...

Re: DWPS ordered!

Ha! The angle on the snare isn't nearly as sharp as it look - I have the iPhone to thank for that. I generally don't have the snare at much of an angle at all, but I do angle it toward me a little....

Re: DWPS ordered!

The 16" for the DWPS is somewhere around $400. Not pocket change, but not too bad, either. The 8" that I got was just under $300, too, I was pretty happy about that, considering the cost of that...

Re: DWPS ordered!

That's why I went with the Performance over the Design series. I was tempted to get the Design. After all is said and done (I'm going to order the 16" in a couple of weeks, and I already got the 8"...

Re: DWPS ordered!

Heard back this morning - a replacement drum is shipping from DW today.
Which figures, I'm out of town until Monday, but I should be able to beat it home, assuming it's shipping ground from Oxnard.

Re: DWPS ordered!

Honestly, if they tune up fine and sound good, I wouldn't bother. If these drums tuned up fine, I wouldn't be getting them replaced. They sound good - the bass is awesome - but I can't quite get...
