Re: Am I a charlot all the way around?

I vote "charlot" into the DW lexicon - great word!

Speaking as somebody for whom the phrase "all the gear and no idea" could have been invented, I reckon you will look a lot less of a knob, OP, if...

Re: Endings

Guilty as charged :/ My default is a cymbal roll. Mostly because one of my pet hates is the drummer drawing attention to their poor technique as they execute horribly uneven double or single...

Re: Another "Back in the Saddle" thread

Definitely a deal - good luck with the gig, my friend, and I'm glad the rehearsal went well.

Looking forward to hearing how much you enjoy yourself!

Re: Painting a bass drum reso head?

I'm really glad I asked! Not just for the wisdom, but I've enjoyed seeing the works of art too! Thanks folks :)

Re: Painting a bass drum reso head?

Woo, demand is obviously good! Not surprised. Did I ever say how much I rejoice in every single hit, just because every strike is so beautiful even when I make it?

Chrome please :)

Re: Painting a bass drum reso head?

I was thinking some sort of acrylic. Because even MY bass drum reso head moves. A bit. But I will mention this to Graphic Designer.

Ahem, Andy: Guru decal? Unless you trust GD to reproduce it...

Re: Painting a bass drum reso head?

Ah, great, thanks! Tbh, I think I'd be one of the last people to notice a detriment to sound; I just don't like the idea of it happening :)

Painting a bass drum reso head?

I've commissioned artwork from my tame graphic designer, that I had intended to have printed on a BD head, but today he offered to paint it on by hand. Is this doable, and if so, how? Obviously, I...

Re: Tommy Igoe's Great Hands For a Lifetime DVD

Yes absolutely, and yes, but Martin don't worry about the speed they play on the video. I made the mistake of thinking that if I was doing it right, I'd be able to play it at warp speed like them,...

Re: Tommy Igoe's Great Hands For a Lifetime DVD

GeoB recommended this DVD to me a year or so ago, and now the thread has popped up again I've gone back to it, after noticing just the other day how slipshod and inefficient my technique had become. ...

Re: New Guru!

Oh you lucky, lucky thing - what a beauty! I believe I've been privileged enough to see that particular drum in real life and I found it heart-stoppingly gorgeous.

Larry's owned his Gurus for a...

Re: How to improve listening skills?

Well, unless you want to be a clone, I'd say that the most important thing is YOUR particular take on any given drum track. Whatever you play will be influenced by what your bandmates are playing,...

Re: Major Personal Milestone Achieved

The Elvin Jones sticks you gave me are still alive and well, although a bit moth-eaten! They're Marlene's favourites. I dread the day when they go to the great big bonfire in the sky :( When they...

Re: & all is well in the world again! :)

You don't get that good at their age without the support and encouragement of your parents, so hats off to them too. I reckon they're doing it right!
