Re: Whiplash Oscar win - will it spur sudden interest in "jazz drumming"?

I'm just praying I don't hear, "you're good, can you play like the guy off whiplash."

You know it's going to happen. Haha

Or someone finds out you play drums and ask if you've ever had...

Re: OCD or normal jacking around?

Tonight's practice was the first time in a long time that I didn't move something around.

Re: How many times have you been asked...

Ever been asked to sit in by the drummer? Would you?

I was asked once by the sub drummer of a band if I wanted to sit in. He knew me from HS since we were in the same drumline and knew I still...

OCD or normal jacking around?

Forgive me, but I carried this thought over from another post.

It feels a lot like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, but danged if most everytime I sit at the kit and start to practice about 5 minute...

Re: Advice on traditional grip

Interesting conversations going on here!

I learned traditional way back in 1972 and continued to use it on snare and the drum set up until about 2 weeks ago? Mainly because I have run into the...

Re: How many times have you been asked...

For one mellow song you probably can't go wrong by letting the guy play your kit. It gives you and the band a chance to develop great rapport with him and those watching.

I feel your anxiety...

Re: Warm up routines

Peter Erskine has a cool snare warm up. Start with one beat on each hand, then two on each hand, then 3 on each, 4, 5 and so on until you reach 10 beats on each hand then come back down and do 9 ,...

Re: Warm up routines

Sorry my mistake. I meant to ask what is a favorite warmup routine on the kit while you practice? Personal practice time.

As in how do you start off personal practice time behind the kit? Any...

Warm up routines

When you are seated at the kit, what is a favorite warm up routine?

I'm just now getting back to basics by warming up with single and double stroke rolls, flams, and the 5 stroke roll. And snare...

Re: end of guitar centre?

Typically there's a lul on some days where a guitar or accessories guy is covering the drum department. Drum guy has to go get lunch after all. They do their best

Most always I go to GC late...

Re: Band Frustrations + 1 (we still have a band)

I'm glad to report back in, we actually managed a rehearsal Saturday evening!

The wife and I were out running errands Saturday afternoon and I got the text from our bass player asking if I'm...

Re: Switching grips

I agree Dr_Watso, it doesn't matter anymore.

I think I was one of those "other" reason guys. Never had a medical problem or other excuse to not use match. I was taught years ago to use...

Re: end of guitar centre?

I have mixed feelings about this one if it is true. I've heard many say GC has been dying a slow death for years though.

Yes, I get annoyed sometimes at the guy working the counter in the drum...

Re: Switching grips

We had a 3 hour band practice tonight (finally) and I can honestly say I used match grip the entire session. All of the songs were rock. Using matched grip felt a whole lot better. I could do tom...

Re: Bongos or Cajon... or Bongo Cajon?

So if you have 2 Cajons you'd have a pair of Cajones right? jk

I've played a few but still not my cup of tea but I can see the practical applications for a Cajon. I've seent them used quite...

Re: Band Frustrations + 1

... go get your drums and take them home, or somewhere where you can play them and practice.

It's one of several playable kits I have...usually my gigging kit. My luddies don't leave the house...

Re: Band Frustrations + 1

The way this band rolls is rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, then when everyone has a warm fuzzy feeling about our entire catalog of covers, get some gigs.

I've already cancelled one afternoon...

Band Frustrations + 1

Ditto on the band frustrations. Although instead of getting all mad and wrapped around the axle about it, I now am starting to find it somewhat amuzing and actually looking at it as: "it is what it...

Re: Ludwig Acrolite Fan Post

I bought my Acro used on eBay about 5 years ago for a steal. The seller said it could be used for parts, but not much else. All that was needed were new snare wires (they were missing) and new...

Re: Any of you use a storage facilitly to rehearse?

If you can find an indoor storeage unit that is temperature controlled, that is good. In Texas they are all over, but not sure where you are located. That will help with the kit staying somewhat in...

I feel the same way SquadLeader. Playing just snare drum I like using the traditional grip as I was taught many years ago. But getting around the kit using traditional is a lesson in patience and...
