WB, I would say that you got a phenomenal deal on those drums...I'm wish deals like that would come my way once in a while. Enjoy them!

Re: Yamaha BCA, date of manufacturing

This kit was made sometime between the early 2000's up until the new absolute line was introduced in 2008 (I believe).

The gold coloured, glued on (not screwed on) badges and triple-flanged hoops...

Re: Do you record yourself daily when practicing?

Agreed. The sooner you evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, the sooner you can nip bad habits in the bud.

Re: Do you record yourself daily when practicing?

Very true. Perceptions can be affected depending on where your kit is, what type of gear you use, mic placement etc. That's why I really like the Zoom recorder because with a bit of experimentation I...

Do you record yourself daily when practicing?

I recently bought a Zoom H4N recorder so that I could record and evaluate my playing on a daily basis. Man, was I shocked when I listened back! It exposes elements of my playing that I wasn't aware...

Re: Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute snare with flanged hoops?

Re: My experience with the tune-bot at my gig last night (it was excellent)

I've had similar experiences. Except the part about throwing my drum!

As has been mentioned in other posts- if you have a decent quality drum with good bearing edges, a good head, and know how...

Re: The tune-bot: my thoughts so far!

+1 to everything Two Cables has already said. As long as you have the ability to seat and evenly tension a head, the tune bot is an indispensable bit of kit. I highly recommend it! You can follow...

Re: Maple snare drums

+1 on MCA. I have a 14x7, extremely versatile with regard to tuning range. Low and fat or high and poppy with awesome rim shots thanks to die cast hoops. Go used if possible- they're $500-600 new.

Re: Tama Imperialstar King Beat 6.5x14 snare

+1.

I used this as my primary snare for 30 years - rock, jazz, pit work....you name it.

If you got this for $65 you basically stole it. Enjoy.

Re: help - have a yamaha question

Yamaha began screwing the badges on the absolute line in around 2003-2004 I believe. The lugs, mounts and hoops and colour all appear to be correct for the absolute line in 2001.

Re: Gretsch Catalina Maple Drum Test.

Hey Mario,

The drums sound great, especially the 2 rack toms and snare. The floor toms sound a bit choked in comparison but blend well with the overall kit.

Your playing is really dynamic and...

Re: ***Sign the DW Boycott List***

Your last paragraph sums it up.

The great thing about this is that you get a full refund and can now go out and buy drums from another manufacturer.

May I suggest Yamaha? You can't go wrong...

Re: Tama Superstars

I had the exact same kit that I got new in 1982. The finish is called Super Mahogany. Great drums, I sold them last year.

Do you have the original mirror reso head?
