Re: Concert style tom's

Sweet, thanks!

I currently use clear Ambassador batter head's. Will that sound good with the concert style set up?

Re: Concert style tom's

I have a maple kit and I've been thinking about cutting out the bottom tom heads while leaving the hardware on to protect the shells to make concert tom's.

Being that most clubs use clip on mics...

Concert style tom's

What are the advantages and disadvantages of concert style tom's, including floor tom's with just the batter head, live and in the studio?

Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

I have used the same Zildjian 20 inch rock ride and Wuhan 20 inch China since the day I got them both. 95 I think was the year I got them both.

Re: Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

You could use a double pedal and use the slave pedal with your left foot. Set up a few different sets of hi hats, like the drummer from Def Lep, on X hat stand's in varying degrees of open and closed...

Top level guys that do local gigs

So I was wondering how many of the top level guys play local gigs in their area for money when they are not on the road with their bigger band's? Meaning cover band gigs and things like that to keep...

Re: Metal drum mixes without triggers or sound replacement

I completely agree with you about no one wanting to be themselves. I've said for years that the most important thing as a musician is to find one's own voice on their instrument. Most musicians are...

Re: Metal drum mixes without triggers or sound replacement

Man, that second point is a sad state of thing's. As musicians we practice and put in so much time to have our own feel and sound just to have to battle with other people to not be put on a grid and...

Re: Metal drum mixes without triggers or sound replacement

Being that so much is sound replaced does one always have to watch their recordings like a hawk to make sure that nothing gets left out in the final product? Meaning everything from ghost notes to...

Metal drum mixes without triggers or sound replacement

I'm looking for metal albums that don't have triggers or sound replacement. Stuff that was recorded over the last 20 or so years would be nice. But if they go further back that's ok.

The reason...

Re: In the studio

I actually would be completely fine with firing him right now. But the bass player wants to keep trying with him. So I'm going to do my best. But, if he keeps doing what he is doing eventually I will...

Re: In the studio

For the most part the band has come to an agreement on the mix. But that seems to be the minor point in all of it. Meaning that I've found that my guitar player/singer really is overly emotional and...

Re: In the studio

I just spoke with the mixing engineer and he is not upset with us in any way. So that's nice. He actually said we were great to work with. Dude is a very nice guy!

Re: In the studio

I tried that. And the drums were up front on the songs that we listened too. But they swore up and down that they were not.

I have a feeling that the mixer is upset with us because of the changes...

Re: In the studio

I think the mix that we had sounded good. But I got out voted. So I had no choice but to ask the mixer to change things.

He sent me an email today saying that he made changes and it sounds good. I...

Re: In the studio

Had the band meeting tonight about the mix. They both felt that the kick drum was way unbalanced in the current mix. There are some hits that are louder then the others, that's true, but It's not by...

Re: In the studio

You are right that the other guys just want to sound like other bands sound wise. And I don't! We had this discussion the other day in the studio. I said that we have to not worry about what other...

Re: In the studio

Both the bass player and guitar player want the drums to be low in our mix. But I'm fighting to make sure they are balanced. I even told them today that I'm willing to back the Tom's down a bit if...

Re: In the studio

The guy doing the mixing would do a rough draft and burn it on a CD so we could do a car test as well as hearing it in the studio to see what we thought about the mix. Every time I said the kick and...

Re: In the studio

The guy doing the mixing has already told them that if you can hear everything and nothing is getting buried by the drums they are not too loud. But they did not really pay any attention to what...

Re: In the studio

We have. The bass player hates his mixes so far. And this guy has worked with Gwar and was involved with Lamb Of God for a long time. As well as non-metal band's.

Re: In the studio

I've already tried that. They keep putting on the same kinds of mixes from only extreme metal bands. And I also like that stuff as well. But we are more of a death meets groove metal type band. And...
